Would you use a limited Mobile Client? (Iphone/Android)

Hi all,
If I made a limited Client that could connect to tibia-servers for iPhone and Android would you use it?

First:
I wouldn't be able to use anything that is copyrighted, such as sprites.
So I probably wouldn't even have it load your character into the game-world.
I couldn't imagine trying to actually PLAY tibia from a phone, it has too many controls, but allowing players to log in and chat shouldn't be too hard.

Also, this would only work after editing TFS a little to allow this type of log-in.
Basically you would have a "Mobile Client" flag, and none of the normal protocols would be sent or received from this client, and it wouldn't load your physical character into the gameworld. The only protocols that would work pertain to the VIP list and chat.

What the client would do is allow you to view your VIP list, send private messages, and talk in any global-chat.

If you have any other ideas for a Mobile Client let me know.

This is just a concept right now, but I think it would be interesting.

1. I would not use it.
2. If it requires a custom server, no one will use it.
3. You do not need a custom server but more packets are sent than you need.

If you didn't use a custom server, wouldn't it log in your character? And if it did, you could die without the ability to act lol.

But I doubt anyone will implement it into his server because only a few players would be interested in it anyway.
There is no problem in creating it but the player could die because he cannot see what is happening. You could just show a notification that he should make sure to be in a pz zone or just provide a script which recognizes the mobile client and kicks the player if not in pz zone.

actually you could do a lot with such a client..
create a smart-click function.

you click on the screen, and you get a list of options poping-up. (walk, use, attack) and so on.
click on an icon for a bp, and it show your inventory, click on items, same thing there (use, trade, use on yourself...)

you get my point

I am always up for new stuffs, but I would not use this.

Tibia is a game with an excessive amount of hotkeys. It rivals Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Putting that on a tiny iphone screen... You'd need the ability to move, and cornerwise, and click, to attack/move/use/party/outfit change/look.
THEN you'd need hotkeys for runes/spells/items on top of that, the entire screen would be completely full of buttons and you would be unable to see.

The only way I could think of even doing it would be making some sort of "Draw Hotkeys" where you'd draw a circle on your touchscreen and it heals, draw a star, it uses SD, etc lol would be way too crazy to do.

I like the idea but i think i would find it out as very strange

The basic idea would be "OT Chat Client".

It would allow you to chat inside of tibia from a Mobile Phone.

Reasons this may be cool:
  1. Able to check and see who is online and even message them from your phone.
  2. Able to set up a "Trade Channel" message that will post your trades, and people could message you back. (Of course you'd have to get to a computer to actually make the trade)
Advanced Features requiring custom source edits that would be cool, but unlikely:
1. Could send "Push" notifications for things such as:
  • Offline Messages
  • Guild War Messages
  • MOTD Changes
  • World Events
  • New Mail Received
  • House/Guildhall Rent Reminders
  • Message when Guild Member is killed by a Player
  • Message when Player logs in (If you are hunting someone, or waiting on a friend you haven't seen in forever)
  • List could go on
2. Could allow you to sort through your depot items, and mail them using money from your bank.

3. Could allow you to walk around as a "Pet" character, no hotkeys just directional keys and use/look/follow buttons (no attack).

afaik, @edubart had plans to make OTClient work with mobile platforms (Android/iOS.) I see a client having potential not for phones so much, but for tablets. Tablets allow for bluetooth keyboards and mice as well.

Anyhow, regarding an app to chat with players in OT servers using your character...
I love this idea. As a server owner, if I could, from anywhere, chat with my players with my admin character using my phone, my players and I would really benefit from it.
The features you listed, as well as advanced features, are truly valuable in my opinion. Sure, a good amount of players may not use this, but it can be very useful for server owners.

I'd use this for sure. But the biggest obstacle, in my opinion, would be getting the source code into TFS itself. I'm not sure if I (or many people) would use it if they had to add it to their core every time they want to update their sources to the newest.
Not to sound disdainful in any manner, I think Mark is looking more toward emulating Tibia as closely as possible with TFS. So in my opinion, unless the code is to 1.0 standards, I doubt it would become a part of the engine.

Just some thoughts,
Red

That is always the biggest Obstacle when making something new for the OTLand community. Most great things require source edits, and most people refuse to do Source Edits.

Trust me it does not lol :p

And why cant you use anything copyrighted? Use Cydia on a jailbreaked iphone to distribute this, better yet, make it so that people upload there own spr and dat file.

The only problem with this is that the screen of an iphone is way to small to do anything productive.

I may have been exaggerating a bit with the Microsoft Flight Simulator comparison. But it does have a lot of hotkeys.

I guess you COULD make it just like a bot, put in auto-heal, auto-potion, auto-haste, auto-spellattack, etc then all you'd have to do is walk around and "touch" to attack lol.

Made for ipads this may have more potential because of the extra size, but for iphone I dont see this being a full game really, its just way to small, maybe you can just chat, but to play it might get a bit difficult because of the required hotkeys, unless you rig the volume buttons to work as a sort of shift or crtl and use the 4 corners as hotkeys.

Agreed, The screen is also smaller knowing the size of the actual game-window. (its a square)

Is it sad I think the TibiaME iPhone sprites look cooler in some ways than the actual Tibia Sprites?

They look more modern, but a bit more childish to. That screen layout looks like a good one to start with, I was thinking on something vertical not horizontal.

That screen is 9x9.
Tibia is 15/11

It would be so small with tibia sprites in there lol

That could be cool have OTS on mobile so people can't access PC at all time or don't have time.

By mobile you can access anywhere even going to work by bus :)
