Did not see any topic addressing this procedure to avoid being nuked for noobs.
Hands on.

This procedure is to prevent the player package your server using that famous PING OF DEATH.
Procedures done in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP

Go to Start>> Settings>> Control Panel> Windows Firewall.
If the Do not allow exceptions is enabled, uncheck it.

It on top has 3 tabs: General, Exceptions, and Advanced.
Click the Exceptions tab and there will be a list of programs and ports released.
Check the file sharing and printer down below and click edit.

There will be 4-door marked.
TCP 139
TCP 445
UDP 137
UDP 138

Uncheck the ports 139 and 445 and press OK.
Now open the Advanced tab
downstairs there will be written ICMP - Click Settings.
If there is anything checked, uncheck.
Give OK on everything and activate the firewall.

With this procedure no one will go ping your server and can send packets to power nuking your net.

Sorry not to post pictures because I did not have time for that.

NOTE: This procedure greatly reduces the attacks on your server but there are many other factors to greater protection.

Any questions postem ae I help .

sRY for bad Inglish - Using Google Translator

unfortunately do not know, it just because I use on my VPS server

Windows Server 2003

anyone can give instructions on how to do this on windows 7 64 bit? ;)

Block ICMP packets from your router if you can. But if your router doesn’t support blocking ping, there is nothing you can do on your computer because your router automatically respond to ping request.

I agree, this is to set a maximum size of packets allowed
logically configured by the DataCenter

This should be configured in the router instead of a computers firewall.

Every router these days should have that option.

Well, I don't mind wasting a few cpu cycles doing firewalling in a computer. Linux and FreeBSD got pretty good firewalls unlike Windows. And it''s pretty common that a router uses Linux/FreeBSD as it's core system.
