The Official Project has begun.
Link: OTland's Official OT: 'The Forgotten Lands' [Community Project]

So like most communities, they have Community-based Projects so I thought OTLand should start their own, I first saw the Idea in OTFans, but sadly as many know OTFans is deader than Outer-Space.

The main thing is... Do you like this Idea? If so, do you have any Ideas/Thoughts for it?

If the community decides to kick this up, these are the things that this Project will need:

  • 100% Custom Sprites
  • New and Unique Systems
  • More Vocations
  • New Map
  • A brand New Story for this server(Story-Writers UNITE! :P )
  • ETC.

We can make this into the Official The Forgotten Server, Also I believe a New name for this kind of server will be appropriate but it needs to include `Forgotten` in its name.

So everyone share your Ideas!

super cool idea bro!

but, who is going to be the owner?

@up: I feel it more like "lets do something unique together, it would be fun and we will learn something for sure!"
Currently I'm absolutely bored but have no ideas nor motivation to code anything so some challenge would be nice

Good idea.
However I don't think custom sprites are needed.
I also think that this server shouldn't offer ANY benefits for donations and accept donations for server costs only.
I'll like to participate in a project like this :)

No one, it's community based, well basically I will leave it to ownership of OTland and Affiliates to the site(Talaturen, etc.) since it will be based off their TFS server, the only real question is what kind TFS will we use(DEV 0.4, CD 0.3.6 or Mystic 0.2.10)?

I would prefer Mystic with dev functions or Crying Damson's function(same as dev) and using atleast protocol 8.7(for creative purposes)

@Don Daniello
Yeah not benefits from donations, just donations to pay for server costs, but what do we do with the premium system that is hard-coded into the tfs system?

About custom sprites we can use the tibian sprites for now but it would be great if we can replace the current ones with community made ones.
We can make it with the current ones and go changing to custom ones as we go.

copy all accouns from otland, paste them into server's database
if premium @ otland == premium ingame

;] naiz idea very najs ;]

The forgotten server is Otlands official server? It's being abit customized with a new map and scripts now to.

@Shinmaru
There are 3 options:
- buy Premium Time ingame
- give away Premium Time for contributors and people who deserve it
- reward Premium for people who donated for the cost of the server, which will make it like buying premium time
In all three options, Premium Time shouldn't be so significant as in RL Tibia, just to allow for a few benefits.

If there will be many people ready to contribute and actively work on it, I'm sure we will find a way to put it online. I guess you can start declaring potential participation.

And perhaps with your help and the community's support and help we can further the customization and uniqueness even further!

This is a community and we should all form part of this creation as well.

This is a Community's Challenge!

I agree we can nominate and organize development groups that would be in charge of making the server possible, I say we can start now by asking who wishes to part of this, also I would like to know on what TFS should we base it on?

I would like to receive further "blessings" and "approvals" from the higher up, to create a sense that we will support this, if possible!

I love this idea. Every user that contributes something gets their name on the contributors list, and stuff like that.
I suppose it should be hosted by an Administrator (or I can host it for free, I just don't want to be the owner & manager).

But I'm kind of for the idea of custom sprites, if we had a spriter, if we could resprite all of Tibia's sprites, and make our own client (YATC?), we'd have something 100% open-source.

Own tibia client ? This idea requirers so much work, that it won't be ever finished. That's why it's dead now. We should stick to something more probable, unless we hire full-time developers.
Custom sprites ? Good, as long as they're better than original ones.

YATC would be hard, but we can pick up from where it was left off the sources from YATC are open-source(I think)

Bumping with Ideas

Seeing that this is getting some positive attention I believe this can take off to a new step, Now I would like to hear about the opinions on how should tasks be divided, here is my opinion:
A Group of:
  • Scripters
  • Mappers << Should work closely with the TFS Map DEVs (Clinten << If he wants to assist us.)
  • Story Writers << These are important and should work together with mappers.
  • Web Developers
  • Coders << currently not fully necessary, but will be once the project takes form.
  • Spriters << same as above only once the projects has a better form.
Anyone that wishes to be part of the Community Project Team, should show us their creations and or contribution to the forum.

Here is a mock up application that will be sent to the appropriate section in this forum.

Code:
Application

Name:
Age:
Language(s): //Language(s) you speak and know.
Group: //Pick from the groups mentioned above.
Reference of your work: //Link to various works that you have done and Computer Language(s) you may know.
Experience: //If any.
Why should you be in the community project?:

All ideas from non-Community Project Team Members are allowed to give Ideas for the project, Ideas that make it into the Project we will add the name of the person who suggested the Idea.

@ Red

Yes your hosting will be a very valuable asset to this project.
Let's hope this kicks off nicely. :D

It would be great to create a forum withing OTland for this project if possible.

I like this project, and i would apply for storywriter/brainstormer, scripts, and (undecided yet),

My application

Name:Cdvooo
Age: do i really have to?
Language: Spanish,Latin, And english
Group: Story writer
Reference to some of my work? Well about that, i would gladly do something for you, but i won't publish it here will send it to you as soon as you want it :P
experience: I have been playing tibia since 7.3, and also have been in OTs since 2006, give or take, i also am a good brainstormer, and i can practically spew out ideas, I have also started a couple of projects and worked on some projects, but, the ones that i started where nonsuccessive because of the fact that i had lack of time.
Why should i be in this project? Well, i just want to give some contribution, and to see this project actually roam, get a momentum in which not even friction can stop it xD So, if anything you let me know and i would send you that PM, and i also would do it "live" if you want to confirm that i did it, and didnt copy it from no one else's work :P

The current OT Project YATC is Open Source Under GNU Licence, probably with their permission (since they have developed most of it up to 8.54 support) we can edit and help them with that project(Maybe that is up to the community, if they consider YATC to be part of this) here are the sources YATC Source.

Should we start getting applications for the groups? or wait and see who else finds this to be a good project?

with limited ammount of people you can use dropbox instead of svn soft for example

I'd like to do something but I have to pass my exams first, it took me too much time already ^^
Name:zakius
Age:21
Language(s): polish, english
Group: scripter, basic c++ coder, storywriter maybe, I can also randomly start to generate tons of ideas(and forget like 95% of them in next few minutes -.-)
Reference of your work: my inq, on hdd I have better version anyway, vampiric weapons, well, I don't really share things :/
Experience: nothing I can prove but was brainstorming with Zyntax a lot about his projects, creating own serv(more like fun of creation than thing that gonna work but well)
Why should you be in the community project?: who knows, I'd like to be usefull for comunity somehow. And have some fun discussing and coding features, even tiny but revolutionary ones

Yes Drop Box would be a simple solution to share works between Project members, first finish off your exams, this is a good Project but it's not worth failing a test for it :) . once you're done let us know!

well, it gonna be about June so...
all I need is motivation but I just spam f5 on few sites instead of learning all the time -.- I'm damn bad at learning(things that I dont feel useful)
anyway moving this project will take some time I guess
about base distro: I'd be fine with updated 0.3.6 with some functions added(the important ones)and item attributes rewritten to be stored only in item(get rid of itemType.abilities etc)

oh well, currently all my ideas are more for new distro than for server(and what I want in server need some hacks to work in 0.3.6...)
cause I started rewriting that attributes to unlock magic attributes for all items I needed to declare all that damn movements somehow... it sucks
and requirements should be also stored in item instead of movements(stronger, magic version of sword would need some lvl and/or skill to use it, right?)
Kinda lot of work just cause noone fixed it in official distros

oh, I already started my monologue about what I'd like in my serv done... but it is nice to know what to expect right?

and, when spiting out streams of thoughts I'm unable to create proper sentences even in polish, sorry

@down: I have ideas but not skill to make everything clean and fast, I don't really care if my code looks bad or there are some tricks that can shorten it(at least in c++, in lua I have kind of habit to minimize codes w/o using cyko style ^^)just I know that they are not good enough to be used in big server cause can be slow and/or use too much memory

Let's wait for more response yet, Otland may organize it to some extent ;)

@Zakius
If you have good idea to improve TFS, why don't you cooperate with current devs ?
