Hey hehehe :D

I will start posting some mapping stuff now and then... I'll start off with my "barbarian headquarter". Nothing special I know, but I wish to know what you guys think about it, so that I can improve! :D

It is lacking few details, I can see it myself as well but I will update it after comments :)

In map you can see ruined houses, a "barbarian arena" and an outpost :p

The reason you find it "good but not great" is because it's like too original right? The reason for that is because I want it that way. I am not intending to make it flashy, rather more realistic. I aim to make stuff realistic not full of trash making it look cool and flashy :p For everything I place on that map, there is a meaning for it, a purpose.

Understand me right; It's just supposed to look like a ruined city that has been conquered by Barbarians. The city is obviously bigger but it goes outside of the screenshot :p The outpost should look a bit newer, built by the barbarians. The old inhabitants were building with that brown kinda wall and the barbarians built with the other one (outpost). So we could say for example the old houses are 200 years old and new are 50 years old :p

I don't like it. The trees seem randomly placed using the tree doodad brush, same goes for the bushes. The roads looks like they were made in a rush(probably with autoborder). There's a big root coming through the pavement(O.o), and why did you put the steel bars there? O.O

The road was not made in a rush, it was made REALISTIC! The fence is for the "arena", read description ^.^

Trees indeed were made with doodad, I usually don't do it that way but I was in quite a rush and wanted to upload the image :p I might remake them.

I can tell you I was rushing with the details, that's why it looks kinda bad.

Certainly, I do follow my own advices. I'm not going to have it that way for the server, it's going to be changed. I just couldn't post it here without nature. All I wanted to showoff was the outpost, ruins + arena but I thought ppl would go about "details plx" so I just added it to reduce these comments. I don't like the randomization of RME at all! I am going to remove all the trees and bushes and remake them. When I do, I will reupload the image to show the difference ;)

Conclusion: Main showoff is the outpost, ruins and arena (just the idea of it). Also the road and the dirt (made it realistic, not just put anywhere to make it look good... Dirt means that people walk there a lot so grass goes off).
 
well, i dont rly think barbarians fit in in that kind of place ;o
barbarians = ice/frost region > svargrond (:
try something else. like amazons/outlaws.

use more grass tufts, and some flowers maybe.
and the broken roof looks fucked up ;p sry.
keep it up!
