This is how I've decided to "build" my HUD. Even with my main bp, tool bp, food bag and supply bag I got lots of space to open new containers when I'm looting or such. I find Necronia's HUD VERY satisfying.

I think that setup will do fine, but it would be better to make some space on the right side for opening loot. My suggestion is to move the Battle window to the left panel, close Friend List (you don't really need that open all the time, especially now when people on beta are scarce), maybe shrink the Skills & Stats window a bit to display only stuff up to Aoni (btw use those Consumption Points to strengthen your character) and that would be it!

Also, apologies to everyone who was online a few moments ago (@Maxxad, @Iikki , @samco ), we had to restart the server to compile another version that will hopefully last throughout the night as a fail-safe until Tarjei comes tomorrow and rewrites some engine code.

I hope you saw my announcement regarding what causes the bug, so best would be to stay away from monsters such as Spinneretar, Veaspecian Spider, and Rawlar until tomorrow. If you must kill them, I guess do it, we'll provide a restart in case the server crashes due to it.

I saw all the announcements, dont worry, i understand this is a beta and its normal that bugs appears and you have to fix them.

We are most happy to hear that, know that we're working hard every day to finish the server as soon as possible!

A wild adventure awaits all those who wander off into the deep swamps of Stinkraw tonight, for the new update(s) are bringing quite a lot of new content and at a quick pace!

Let's take a look at some of the major changes that have been introduced within the last few days.

E4FooUJ.png
First off, a change that has long been awaited - an EXP rate increase for the BETA. For a while, we wanted to keep the EXP rate equal to that of the original server, in order to see at what pace people will advance and if the EXP given by quests and monsters is balanced. Now that we're certain of what the situation looks like, we're confident to boost the EXP rate to help you level up faster and go through the old content in order to get to the new stuff and help us test it.

EXP rate on Necronia BETA has been increased from 1.0x to 1.6x.

And since deaths in Necronia are inevitable as much as they are punishing, we're working towards making them slightly less painful. Death will always play a big part in the game, and with all the things you lose upon dying (skills, level, items), it is something you'll try to avoid by all means, and something that makes your heart pump and your eyes shed silent tears.

When it does happen, it is reasonable that you'll be bummed out. But we don't want the death loss to bum you out so hard that you feel like quitting.

For now, death loss percent has been reduced from 10% to 6%, and more changes are to follow.

The update also brings 2 new available areas filled with creatures with new abilities and items:

Oiorpata Village

A village of female raiders and savages, isolated from the world, yet a threat to it. They're known to kidnap men for various reasons, then waste them once they've used them. Unfortunate as it is in the kingdom, nobody bats an eye when that happens to a regular trader or traveller. But when the SDC's explorers, famed outlaws, King's messengers and other valuable people started to disappear while travelling through this part of the swamp, suspicions pointed only to one place.

uc7Q3a7.png

Their numbers are large and they are skilled fighters that use grouping tactics to overwhelm and take down an enemy. They fight better the more of them there are in an area.

It is troubling to think that the Witches of Avernum have amassed and joined the forces of these wildlings. As if their power was not great enough, with the aid of witches, they could become unstoppable! Their cause is unknown, but we know that they use men and despise noble ladies. They pose a huge threat to anyone passing through the swamp, so, beware!

Mossquitea

Mossquitea is a moss-ridden mess of a marshland at the south-east part of the Stinkraw Swamp. It has earned its name through the widely known fact that this is THE breeding ground for Mosquitoes on Avernum.

The warm bog and the numerous ponds scattered throughout the area provide a perfect environment for the pest to breed. To make things worse, these ponds are also the home of some of the deadliest alligators and crocodiles known to man.

bbVWOBL.png

With them to protect them, Mosquitoes can breed continuously and overwhelmingly, endangering the lives of people all around Avernum.

You don't know annoyance until they start poking you full of holes that itch beyond imagination. They can carry contagious diseases from one person's blood then transfer them to another person with a single sting, making them the most potent disease-spreading weapon nature has ever produced.

Real-time Transportation Systems
Isn't it lame when you use an NPC service (boat, railroad, etc.) to travel, and all the beauty of sightseeing and experiencing the road gets taken away from you when you realize that 'travelling' via these services means teleporting from point A to point B?

We've acknowledged this way back in 2010, but haven't acted on it too much until now. This time we'll do our best to bring you the real experience of travelling!

DNyaohJ.png

Be it via a railroad, a flying carpet, a boat or a mount, you'll always be able to see your character travelling and you'll be able to observe the environment as it shifts before your eyes revealing the beauties and secrets of the world.

XyAw3D9.png

As soon as all the monsters on Avernum have been placed, and all areas are unlocked, we'll start filling in the gaps with missing NPCs and among them, you'll be able to find local flight-masters, ship captains and railroad managers who will help you experience the sensation of realtime travelling.

What next?
We've kicked off the night with this news update and now we'll delve further into content development. We hope to emerge with yet another huge update at the end of the night (/morning?)

Here's a small teaser of the murky swamp mountain that's about to be unlocked very soon.

Behold - Mountain Mossfloor.

AHaBtWN.png

Will this server be fully restarted once it launches? And are we going to see a launch in 2015? (I know it's hard to say estimates but we you getting close?)

Yes and yes.

However, only characters will be wiped, accounts will remain. All accounts that transfer from BETA to official will get some things such as a BETA tester badge, some cosmetic rewards and stuff like that.

Hello Necronians!

So... after a tiny bit more time than I expected, due to annoying real life obligations (aka sleep), the Mt. Mossfloor update has been dispatched.

This huge update covers the entire area from Stinkraw Swamp II to Venoma Town and more, with the only locked area being north of Venoma, and that one should be implemented tomorrow.

MxXIvnQ.png

Shortly after, we'll add the missing NPCs and quests for both cities.

Let's take a quick look at what this update brings:

Mt. Mossfloor

irexV19.png

This mossy behemoth of a mountain and a major landscape is the main obstacle on the path between Conqueria and Venoma town. Luckily, there are other routes to take, but if you find yourself eager to climb and explore the mountain, be prepared to face the horrors spawned from decades of exposure to high radiation.

KeQKsYv.png

The mountaintop harbors the teleport to the first rift area of Necronia, where you'll be able to solve the mystery of Effluvius Island and close the rift located on it. However, this is not yet available in this update.

ToPYcsP.png

Emerald mines

The emerald mines below Mt. Mossfloor is a hiding place for creatures that don't like sunlight... or being seen. If you disturb them, you're going to feel their wrath, and feel it harsh. Tread carefully and you might even be able to pick up some new ores along the way!

OWEJJl5.png

And while the routes around Venoma are no safer than the mountain, you may be able to get to the town without sacrificing too much.

ll2wW4M.png

However, be very careful! Take the wrong path or explore too deep and you'll find yourself facing creatures so powerful that they've been tasked with guarding imprisoned ancient gods.

Good luck Necronians!

Im looking foward to play, i've said what I liked and what I disliked and so far you responded properly, i'm def going to play.
Something I asked before but I still quite dont get it; You need 5 gems to go to the main island so for those 5 gems you need to do 5 quests, seems fine right? These 5 quests require items from several trees/bushes/mobs... still quite oke imo, you've said the map is made for 200 players max. Lets imagine you open your server, its def going to be populair and now 200 players are in bawfuria, all 200 players need the same mob, same tree, same everything. Itll be 100 times harder with all those people around, and basicly stuck in bawfuria.

Short question; going to the main island do I choose a city? If I go to carlin I get lvl 8 spawns, same for thais etc. If I go to a certain town will there always be hunting places for my range?

Hello again!

There are 18 quests on Bawfuria, most of them give the sapphire gem, and we'll probably make it so all of them do (due to overcrowding problems). Only 1 quest is mandatory (Lea's Test) and for it, you need to advance in each skill once, something that's quite easy to do, slay 1 boss (which can be done in a team or solo, either way), and cut 1 specific tree in the underground which is a single respawn (takes 1 min to respawn) but we can make it take like 5 seconds if we need to.
So I don't think there will be many problems regarding that. There are plenty of ores in the entire underground system for everyone, the only thing that might be concerning is the amount of trees on the lumberjacking island. There a lot of trees on the gobo island (blissbloom archipelago) but you are in the middle of a monster respawn if you chop there, so we'll try to make the lumberjacking island, which is safe, have more trees for chopping.

And when going to main, you are placed in Conqueria City by default where you start some stories and questlines that take you to other cities, at which point you might choose to move there via a portal of citizenship. Quick-travel between cities will exist in form of a flying mount or a boat.
