I mean there is no true AI yet. No where. Every implementation of "AI" is exactly what is being discussed here, the appearance of intelligence, not actual intelligence. No one has made Artificial Intelligence with lines of code. Something like that would require biochemistry.

the field of AI research defines itself as the study of "intelligent agents": any device that perceives its environment and takes actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal. Colloquially, the term "artificial intelligence" is applied when a machine mimics "cognitive" functions that humans associate with other human minds, such as "learning" and "problem solving".

simple google search clears this right up, this is pre-programmed behavior, not AI
people use the term too loosely
in reality this is just mimicking AI (if that), not real AI

AI? do you guys consider a monster with atk dmging like instead of the normal 95-150 dmg it would be like 4% to 6% dmg (the dmg is based on max health or max mana depending on utamo) this would be a game changer and then monsters will be able to walk into pz without being scared !!! monsters will become players and robots and tibia will stop evolving around hunting!!!

If the image recognition software I have created is not AI then yes, I do not know what is.

However for me, both if else statement tree and machine learning is an Artificial Intelligence.
If machine can understand that if byte is 0 then it would do this, if byte is 1 then it would that.
I call this intelligence.

But how do you think machine learning and neural network is created?
Its still a big cluster fuck of if else statements!! But instead of few of them, now they are computed billions per second, to create a best path to given solution.

The par how good AI can be is raised so high that human created if else statements are nothing compared to what machine could do.

If we would however talk about quantum computing (which i think is hoax, but that's another story) then if else statements would not apply because in quantum computing a variable can be true and false at the same time.

Would not perceiving a player count as perceiving its environment and then attacking the player or running away count as actions that maximize its chance of success at some goal? I'm not saying that it is great AI (or that the actions are always the best actions), but it certainly fits your definition of AI.

Thus, which you are referring, are really different than this situation. In physical games, it's pretty hard to manipulate the AI as you need to take care of every small aspect in, for example, the creature's body. While here it's just to take care of simple moves to surround the player correctly and not fall into his trap using fire bombs, magic walls and so on. I know it won't be very nice one and giving a real feeling, like fighting a real player, but I can say it will be enough for such 2D game.
