Hello! I feel like there is too little distinction between the discussion/advertisement board. Many threads are simply advertisement threads with a little "feel free to discuss this" at the end – not a very good ground to start a discussion. To quote Xenios in the sticky:

# Advertisements:
You are not allowed to post in this board just to advertise your and/or other opentibia servers, in case you break this rule, your thread will be deleted and you may risk infraction/bannishment when spamming advertisements.

First of all I understand that you can discuss anything, but not everything you can discuss belongs on the discussion board. I also realize that there can not be a strict line between server discussion and advertisement, but it could be clearer (and better enforced). If your thread "discussion" is focused on __ it belongs in __

  • Server concepts (e.g "opinions on capture the flag?") – Discussion
  • Server information (e.g "do you like my server?") – Advertisement
  • Finished project ready to launch – Advertisement
  • Project in beta phase (even if you are hosting an open beta server) – Discussion
  • Details irrelevant to what you want to discuss (e.g valid discussion thread at the end of your advertisement) – Advertisement (or just post the discussion part separately)
What do you think? Discuss! :D

Edit: As far as the Advertisement board goes, I think encouraging a better use of tags would help cleaning it up. As it is now, the norm is to use 100 letter titles and just list every "tag" in the title. If client version and common features (e.g which type of map, high/mid/low-rate, stages or static rates and so on) there would be no need to spam everything in your title to grab the most attention.

Hi Worr,

I agree with you, the Discussion board is (and historically has been) used inappropriately for server owners to advertise discuss their servers.
Since tagging is an under-used feature on most forum boards anyway, I was considering suggesting that we create a sub-forum for Discussion labeled "Server Discussion".

This way server owners can advertise look for feedback on their server, but they will not be doing so in a top-level board; the best part is that the top-level discussion board is no longer saturated with advertisements server discussion threads.

That seems like the best solution in the sense that it would get rid of endless of moderation and judgement calls (what is discussion/advertisement).

As for tags I was mostly talking about advertisement board – for some reason people are able to keep their titles cleaner in the discussion board.

I think you are totally right, except by the fact it's not really a problem. It's not like OTLand is full of content, and discussions threads that are only meant to advertise end up dieing pretty quickly.

It's not like you get lost in a sea of advertisement threads while in Discussion subforum.

The actual content created here in OTLand fit perfectly in the current forum subdivisons, once you try to create a even more special subforum it will appear even more empty, and the already few active people will miss more topics, since is not everybody that visit all subforums. People misstep in to threads they end up finding interesting and it would happen less.
