Hi!

As some of you know, we're working on a project that puts Tibia mechanics into 3 dimensional world that is embedded in "realistic graphical theme", which looks like that right now:

And we're thinking about starting a new "low poly" version that could look like this:

What are your thoughts about that?

There is no doubt that for the most conservative Tibia players - there is only one Tibia and undisputedly it is not 3D at all, but I wanted to gather opinion from players who might be a little bit more "open minded". We have engine, the client stability is better and better. We could use some of your opinions on that. We'd preferable use some of already existing assets available here: 3D Fantasy | Assets & Packs | Unity Asset Store (https://assetstore.unity.com/3d/environments/fantasy). Please, shot me with your thoughts.

Regards,
Ron

For me, the low poly version has waaaay more Tibia vibes than the other one, it has more personality as well, really like it.

If you were to do this using low poly models then it would end up looking and feeling like Runescape 3... And that's a good thing imo.
Honestly, current state of the game is tragic. It feels like a mix of premade assets because nothing belongs next to each other. Low poly on the other hand is easy to create, almost anything fits together and is very efficient (performance wise). So even if you were to use premade assets, it would still look and feel better than what you currently have.

I like argument about "performance" as well. As you know we want to go "mobile", that would help with this topic a lot.

Alright guys.

If we were about to create a PoC project (proof-of-concept), preliminary adding some basic graphics and slowly going further with adding more content - do you think that fund raising (through Patreon or other means) could be successful?

Another thing to remember is this: we are currently basing on exactly same items Tibia has (8.6), which means: we are able to offer "transition" for other 2D projects to 3D quite easily. Having these graphics we would deteriorate more towards "our items, our monsters, our map" although mechanics would be still Tibia-like.

Do you think Tibia players would be still interested in trying it out? I still have a feeling that Tibia 1:1 is something that sells easily in OTS world, but custom projects don't have an easy path and actually very few of them are successful.

As long as you advertise it as a new game, instead of "Tibia based".

low poly looks good and is quite "in" at the moment. I think it would fit tibia better too.

@RonIT low poly definitely would fit a 3d tibia. Just avoid naming yourself 3D Tibia so you dont get sued by cipsoft in the future if the game is ever to succeed (which I think it could happen!) .

Keep it simple. Focus on gameplay performance.
Fun games are played despite of bad graphics.
Bad games aren't played regardless of quality graphics.

Low poly kinda reminds me of Legends of Aria, might be worth checking it if you need inspiration
