Why not a Purge PVP server, would it work?

I think this server is mostly fit for old school Tibia like 7.4 version.

The Purge PVP would be a non PVP server where every day, at least once there will be purges where the server will turn into PVP without skulls. It is usually just once, but sometimes more to prevent players feeling safe.

During purges everybody will get PVP logout block for the purge time (15, 30) minutes? Logged out players will not be able to login, players in PZ will get kicked out, boats dont have PZ in this server.

Killed players will be kicked out and AoL wont protect against item loss. There will be a login queue, that will end when the purge is over.

When the purge starts everybody will get a message with the numbers of players online and all kills will be announced.

Exiva spell mana coast is increased.

There will be highscores for players with most purges and players that participated in purge more time without dying. The first 3 players, will get gold, silver or bronze medal displaying on their character.



Do you think something like this or modified version would work?
 
Sounds like a cool concept, some things I'd change/consider.

  • Allow people to login, but not logout
  • Power abuse of level 300's running around killing 50's, but I suppose that's what it's all about? Low level players will cry and leave since they lost everything. They should logout before the event starts
  • What are the incentives other than showing gold/silver/bronze on the character? It needs to be something absolutely worth fighting for.
  • Maybe reward people who survive without dying / minimal deaths too.
 
I will say that such a server does not make sense for at least 2 reasons.

The first reason is that pvp players hate everything related to non pvp servers and reason number 2 is that such a server favors boting which cannot be controlled in any way and creates too much level imbalance in the game.

The third reason is that without good advertising simply no server will survive, and I don't think any pvp player would want to advertise something like that.

You can always hide somewhere, the time is not too much and maybe the losses depend on the difference of level between the attacker and the victim?

You have no imagination, I have been playing this game on ots servers 7.4 for many years and it does not matter if the bots will die, because suddenly you will start the server without skulls.

Since people have alarms and you won't kill them because no one leaves the main mischief unattended, they produce runes and gold on cave bots with use noob characters.

They can produce a money and runes advantage and then fire up with a level in their spare time 10 x faster than normal players.

As you would notice on all the servers that are created, the highest levels are achieved by the scammers and they do not put the main characters on the bot, they only generate gold and runes advantage with additional characters, where the risk of death means nothing to them.

Their advantage is growing day by day and the server suddenly dies, because the competition becomes so uneven that people just hit the exit button and do not continue the game.

what's your goal with this idea? It seems like you want to encourage pvping. PvP players doesn't need incentive to go pvp. They only need a good enemy.
IMHO you are simply making non-pvp players not want to play during this time AND pvp players to not want to play other than this time (thus won't play your server at all since if it's that time he wants to play he will play on a diff server).

Don't get me wrong. I love different game design concepts and the process of generating ideas. And you may still have some gold behind this idea.
If you still feel like it's a good idea my advice is using a kind of the scientific method. Test your hypothesis first.
 
There's always going to be an unbalance between players no matter what you do.
If there's a level cap, now we got equipment unbalance and experience.

In FPS games, oh. The guy has that gun! noob or he uses a scope, there's always something that gives someone an upper hand. Snipers on long-range vs an smg.
If you give every single player the same things and same level, there'll still be someone that may dominate by experience in pvp compared to a casual rpg player, no matter how you dig down. Level cap is not a solvation in my eyes.
