Hello everyone! Have you seen the recent photo showcasing stunning 3D graphics? I was blown away by the level of detail and beauty in this random image from the internet.
What was your first impression of the photo?
  • How do you think the level of detail and beauty in the graphics/shadows compares to Tibia right now on 2D or graphics you've seen?
  • Are there any specific areas of the photo that stood out to you?
  • Do you think this level of detail and beauty in 3D graphics is achievable in Tibia? or is it more suitable for static images 🤔?
  • What do you think could benefit from incorporating these types of graphics into the game? 🤔

I don't think that's 2D tho. That looks more like 3D assets with tibia-like textures or sprites stretched over them.
The kind of ambient occlusion you see in the beams of the walls is a basic feature of mostly every 3D engine, and definitely not something most people would think of attempting to texture into wall sprites.

Strictly speaking both of those are impossible. To my knowledge the engine don't support any of the necessary features to make this image a reality, at least not the default one used by CIP's client. Hell just trying to implement walls with the same quality would require something like 128 - 512x resolution sprites.

It looks really nice, but I feel that if you start involving 3D into the production process, you could definitely benefit from shedding quite a few of the old baggage that comes from Tibia being a game from 1995. Mainly the locked camera, the weird camera angle, and A LOT of sprites would benefit from 3D reinterpretations rather than using decades old upscaled sprites.

Here is same, but 3D perspective.
Maybe he is only concept because camera is moving linear

Yeah that's definitely a blender render based on the weird camera movement.
No game engine I've ever used have had a first person camera that janky.

And since it's the same map I'm guessing the original picture shown is also a blender render, just with a modified camera to mimic the weird tibia perspective.

The video is interesting tho... I wonder how many people would actually play a fully 3D tibia with first-person camera.

Holy shit, as a gamedev — now I want to create this in Unreal Engine!!!

Do you guys know the exact camera angle Tibia uses? I always wandered that, it is neither Top-Down nor Isometric, its something in between it seems.

If I knew any good 3D designer open to cooperation, I'd definitely create something fun like that in Unreal Engine.

It's a cylindral projection called Oblique projection, has some approaches like Cavalier and Cabinet (but inverted)
