I like the maps!! keep it up
Thanks! I do spend a majority of my time planning and tuning things so they make sense for actual gameplay and not just look presentable - this might challenge the GTA release schedule tho!Very good map shape, it's good that you're paying attention to it. Good luck with your project.
Update time!
Finished the amazon spawn - it only took 2 weeks lol. It's nothing groundbreaking but I like how it turned out.

As a bonus - here's a sneak peak of the system I'll be implementing - plenty of simple gather/kill quests throughout the map to break down the grind and speed up leveling (aka World of Warcraft for the poor)

Thanks a lot! I basically grew up playing Tibia starting around ver. 7.4 and it was a huge part of my life.Great mapping! I just started again, after Some years of retirement. 8.6, low, rpg style. Your style is exactly what I love, and seeking. Great style my dude! I just started mapping again, for few weeks. Do you have tips or advise how to get inspiration ? Is this for your own project, or what is the goal of the map you creating. Keep it up!

It's funny. I almost hear myself talking here. I get what you mean.. basically same story started tibia around 7.1 when I was 12 years old, played until 8.6 I think. I am 34 now, and tibia have always been a special memory, I grew up with it. I sometimes quit, or don't have to time to play and grind, like when I was younger. But the game and nostalgia, always pulls me back. I feel sad about what Tibia have become these days. And I always seeking ways to re experience those times I enjoyed this game so much. I played many oldschool OT's. Problem I see, there are a lot of quality real based content out there. Unfortunately a lot of download and run servers, no real passionate projects anymore. If I see the gala section now, no true oldschool nostalgia servers. Or.. only x1 real servers. Thanks a lot! I always admired the way CipSoft designed the main continent and how despite being quite plain looking (having a very limited number of spites to work with in the early versions) they always managed to make it look interesting and immersive - I think a big reason for it is that you had to use your imagination to fill in the gaps.
I still get some of my inspiration looking at old Tibia maps - I use the tibiantis.info in-browser map viewer - they have both 7.7 and 8.0 versions.
On top of that I've spent just as much time playing various OTS - I often look through the quick mapping show off threads on this forum and keep a folder of screenshots from our fellow mappers - a lot of them are geniuses in what they do!
As to the goal of this server - I want to recreate that feeling I had playing Tibia was back in the days with focus on social and exploration/mystery aspect as opposed to min-maxing and p2w elements.
I’ve decided on low rates (1x-2x) with focus on economy with large, polished map that has plenty locations/quests/mysteries to discover.
Other than that I want to keep it vanilla - no crazy items, no new spells, no game breaking mechanics.
This is my hobby project, I don't have anyone else working on it, I'm not planning on making money - I truly enjoy mapping and been doing it on and off for nearly 20 years - I'll make sure to have a packed polished map that provides plenty of content for those playing both solo or in groups - that's my goal for now.
I don't have much to share yet since I'm working on a lot of places at the same time, but just so I'm not coming empty handed here's some updates (Still WIP)

I always had a true love for 7.4. Minimalistic economy based settings, based on social experience and team spirit, having fun and escaping reality. Progress, which had to be earned, by getting out of bed before school, to hunt an empty dwarf cave. Man those times. The feeling of dieing, and losing a week of progress. It was magical.
Im working these days as a professional developer, and loving the UI (creative side) of building things. Somehow, these are the factors pulling me back, to create a server, just for that. I am happy to read your motivation and passion. Missing that kind of people in the community these days! a lot of download-and-run servers
Basically spending a few weeks now, on all the backend server side, compiling and client setup. Had to catch up againa lot of these things changed haha. But finally everything seems set
Now I can start on the story, map, lore. Excited! I try to see it the same way as you are, I don't mind spending own money on a server, earn enough for that now. No plans of earning even money, how cool is if these servers building a solid player base, seeking why those projects are being made in the first place.
Anyways, thanks for sharing your story and idea's! Inspirational. Keep up the good works, your skilled in what your doing! I hope you will bring this creation to day light some day!
If you want to spar, or need any help. Always happy to help.
Cheers!
I hope not indeed. But I like the proces as long as you enjoy it yourself, all good!I love old school servers as well - 7.4-7.6 was always my choice first and I've spent a lot of time on OTS like Nostalther but I feel like it gets grindy/boring fast if you aren't part of some kind of larger community - plus you already know what to expect from the map.
I keep thinking we're 10 years too late to making a good custom server as I don't think there's much interest in them anymore (hope I'm wrong!), most people seem to pick RL map with a focus on PVP - these kind of servers don't last long though and are a cash grab.
Thanks for the kind words and best of luck with your server! Feel free to DM me a link if you have your own thread, I'd be glad to keep an eye on the progress
