Knightwatch, in greater depth:

Knightwatch is a Tibia 7.8+ server built on fusion32’s decompiled 7.7 binary, meticulously extended to recreate Tibia as it existed in 2006. The goal is simple: to offer a free, truly authentic 7.8 experience without reliance on incomplete or buggy engines and datapacks. This makes Knightwatch the first and only 7.8-era server of its kind: every core system comes directly from the original engine, not adapted from existing open-source servers riddled with inaccuracies. Every quest, formula, spell, mechanic, raid, and system isn’t just “like” the original—it is the original.

Knightwatch has been developed to support Tibia protocols from 7.8 - 8.0. All content up to 8.0 has already been completed and is ready to be included as content patches over time, including items, monsters, spells, quests, NPCs, and maps. The intention is to give players something to look forward to and have the game world evolve over time, with the hope of preventing the server from growing stale or stalling out.

While keeping the “7.8 feel” is a top priority, we have made some minor but impactful custom quality of life improvements:
  • Shared experience has been introduced (from version 8.1). We believe shared experience as a feature is a net benefit to players, encouraging team hunting and building community. Full client UI integration to enable/disable shared experience (no commands).
  • Bonus experience will be in effect for the first 2 hours of stamina, and the amount of bonus experience you receive is dynamic based on your level compared to the highest level player in the server.
  • Stamina has been modified so that regeneration begins 10 minutes after the last experience gained, no matter if the player is offline or online. This way, players will not be “punished” for staying online and doing other activities (skill training, making runes, chatting with friends) after their bonus period is over.
  • No “corpse ownership” system. Originally introduced in 7.8, this system was designed to protect new players from having their loot stolen by more experienced players. Just about everyone is a veteran player these days, so this system is a nuisance instead of a benefit.
Knightwatch has a strict no-macro policy, including “one-and-done” rule enforcement. This means that if you are caught using any form of macro to cheat (auto-heal, auto-hunt, auto-eat, auto-rune, auto-anything), your account is deleted. Multiclienting is also not permitted. For obvious reasons, we won’t spell out all of the security measures we have in place, but a big component is our custom client, which has numerous in-house security features.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Knightwatch is completely free. All players have access to all content, including spells, cities, boats, carpets, outfits, addons, promotions, and houses. There are no “golden accounts”, “premium scrolls”, “donation points” or any pay-to-win of any kind.

From now until launch, I will post some screenshots of gameplay to help fuel the 2006-era nostalgia. We hope you will join us in Knightwatch, visit the site and make an account today!

With so many RL servers out there, it can be difficult to stand out. One way we’ve done that is through quests. We’ve all had the same experience: you’re playing a so-called “RL server”, you go to complete a quest or turn in rewards for an addon, and suddenly a lever doesn’t work or an NPC ignores every keyword you try.

It’s common for many “RL servers” to have quests that are inaccurate or incomplete. Missions get simplified, puzzles are removed, and entire mechanics are replaced with basic teleports that anyone can walk through.

In Knightwatch, that will never happen. Every aspect of every quest has been replicated as accurately as possible, right down to the graphical effects and on-screen text messages. For example, players can’t simply walk through the energy barrier into Ferumbras’ Tower; the entire Shattered Isles questline must be completed first:

We know not every player prioritizes RPG elements and quest accuracy, but for those who value the classic experience and attention to detail, Knightwatch is built for you.

Welcome to "Another 1x OTS" family, you won absolutely nothing since people probably won't enjoy taking work holiday to get out of rookgard. Seems nice tho.

its not about rl map or x1 server to attract people you have to offer something which adds a lot of gameplay value while not breaking entire economy and balance well... it can break it but just a bit

e.g miracle with their attributes it was something fresh atleast way you farm these items and enchant them because it wasnt first server with such attributes however it brought wallet warriors and rpgers to server

100%

There have been so many low rate 7.4, 7.6, 7.8, 8.0 etc servers for years now.

The OT community has played those versions of tibia over and over, and yes .. also with original and simplified versions of the quests, of monster behaviour etc..

Offering the same low rate experience "Every quest, formula, spell, mechanic, raid, and system isn’t just “like” the original—it is the original." Is not a fresh take, it's been done, I'm not really sure who this server is for.

The only interesting thing here is not allowing MC. .

You need to offer a fresh spin on the experience, changing such tiny details like shared experience or corpse ownership just won't cut it.
Switch up either the content (Map, enemies, quests, equipment etc) or the gameplay (vocations, spells, systems).

Without doing that you have nothing meaningful to offer except nosgaliabait which will stay online for a month.

Hotkeys were added in 7.8, and this server is 7.8, so yes.

The feedback about the lack of customizations is fair and accurate. However, that’s intentionally the entire point of the project.

So when people point to the lack of customizations as proof that the server “isn’t enough,” I think that misses the point. The lack of customizations is the design philosophy. Outside of a few small QoL improvements like shared experience and stamina bonus, the goal is to preserve this era of the game as accurately as possible and make it available for people who still enjoy that style of gameplay. And if you don’t enjoy that style of gameplay, I’m not here to convince you to like it. I’m here to inform those who ARE interested in this type of server that it exists. We did this because we’re passionate about this era of the game, we enjoyed recreating it, and now want to share our work with others.

Calling it “nostalgiabait” also feels a bit unfair. “Bait” implies you’re trying to lure people into something deceptive or manipulative. Personally, I’d say that term fits servers that rely on nostalgia to squeeze players for a quick profit before disappearing a month later. Knightwatch is a not-for-profit server. I’m not really sure how offering people a free game to enjoy is supposed to be considered “bait.”

And while I’m fully aware that many people have tried their best to make “super accurate” RL servers from this era (and I’ve played many of them), to my knowledge, most (if not all) of those servers were/are based on TFS (or similar distros) with missing and/or approximated mechanics. Yes, plenty of people have hosted some version of the leaked binary, but always as 7.7 or below. If there was ever a publicly available 7.8+ upgrade of the original binary, feel free to link it because I certainly never saw it in the 10+ years I’ve been around. Fusion32’s decompiled binary only became available last fall so no, this hasn’t really been done before to this degree of accuracy.

Now, to someone who doesn’t understand or particularly care about preservation or mechanical accuracy, the difference might go unnoticed (or simply not matter)--fair enough. But for players who actually value how these older versions truly behaved and felt to play, the difference between approximated mechanics and the original game logic is meaningful.

Servers like Project Fibula have already shown that there’s a real audience for preservation-focused projects that aim to faithfully recreate a specific era of the game. They've still got hundreds of players on a daily basis despite not having any custom features. Knightwatch is trying to bring that same philosophy to 7.8~8.0, which, as we all know, is a very different experience from the 7.1 era.

At the end of the day, if someone wants custom spells + monsters, altered progression, new vocations, item attributes, or heavily reworked gameplay, there are already many servers catering to that audience. But saying a faithful, low-rate RPG experience “just won’t cut it” raises the question: won’t cut it for who? Clearly not for everyone, because there are still plenty of players looking specifically for this kind of experience.

What about promotion? Do you have streamers?
While it would be nice to have some additional promotion - given the hobby/Free2Play nature of the project, we do not have a marketing budget for streamer promotions. We are hopeful that community word of mouth will be able to drive a healthy player base.

Its mean project die on start :(
Feel free to disagree with me on this, but I don't believe paying streamers to play on a server is much of a deciding factor on long term stability. You may have larger initial peaks, but without an unlimited marketing budget eventually the server will have to stand up on its own two feet and will live or die on its own merits.

Unless we keep marketing campaigns running long term, we are likely to lose players as quickly as we gained them. Players who watch tibia streamers for the 'next big server' are just as likely to move on to whatever server the streamer is getting paid to promote the next week. It isn't a sustainable business model long term, especially for a server that isn't bringing in any revenue to begin with.

I know its not the perfect answer, but Knightwatch needs to be something that people want to play, not something we are paying them to play. And if the playerbase decides its not worth their time, we are ready to accept that reality.

Thank you to everyone who is showing interest so far. @Crevasse will likely respond here later today with some more teaser stuff, but I wanted to showcase some of our QOL improvements. Specifically the client and discord integrations.

Custom Client -
A major part of the Knightwatch project was porting OTClient to be 100% compatible with Fusion32's decompilation while maintaining the cipsoft look.

This allows players to make full use of modern creature comforts such as hotkeys, movable inventory windows, WASD walking, action bars, HP/Mana circles, key rebinding, and more while still being faithful to the classic protocol restrictions (ex. no moving while casting spells, picking up items, etc). This offers a best of both worlds - classic gameplay with a modern interface. Our client UI has been heavily modified to mimic the classic look, including obscure details like walk animations, while still supporting these additional UI elements.

Discord event notifications -
Our custom discord bot notifies players about raids, trade chat, and server saves. Monitor for events and watch the market without having to be in-game 24/7. Commands also exist to check highscores, players online, etc.

Always dreamed of owning your own Tibian house? Now’s your chance!

With the addition of Liberty Bay, there’s a larger supply of houses available compared to earlier eras of the game, which means players who actually want a home have a real chance of getting one.

It’s also worth mentioning (again) that the housing system itself is fully functional and period-accurate. I think most (if not all) of us have encountered situations where houses remain permanently “owned” by players who quit long ago because the eviction system is broken, or even worse, where hard-earned items inside your house fail to save properly. In Knightwatch, things like this won’t happen. Housing management is fully integrated with the website and has been implemented to match the original experience as closely as possible (auction system).

Once you've secured your dream home, decorate it the way you want to. The implementation of 7.8 means access to pirate-themed furniture, decorations, and rare items that you can show off.

And perhaps most importantly: house ownership is not locked behind a paywall. If you want to earn a house, you earn it by playing the game.

(showcasing some niche yet important item interactions: crafting a skull candle and catching a goldfish in a bowl)

We are now 24 hours to launch!
1777568276531.webp

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the conversation, tested during the beta phase, etc. Regardless of your opinions on RL map, 1x servers, etc, I hope to see a great turnout tomorrow.

I want to plug the discord one more time - please join us on discord if your planning to start playing tomorrow. We are working on adding channels and fleshing things out leading up to launch. The discord bot is now fully implemented and ready for release.

Account registrations are open on the website if you want to make a character and download the client ahead of time. Our client does have a built in updater, so you should only have to download once regardless of any last minute fixes deployed between now and launch.

Finally, the interactive map on the website has been updated to accurately reflect the release state. Highly recommend you check it out!

try to open ;)
Make sure you have both data.otpkg and knightwatch.exe. We have had a couple of testers who had issues with Windows false flagging the .exe and quarantining it, which also could be an issue.

Are you getting any errors or anything? Feel free to message me on discord with pictures if that would make it easier, I'm happy to help out.
