I reinstalled Ubuntu and the terminal still didn't work. However, this time I managed to find a fix; changing the language made it work. Now I'm back at the step where I enter the command to start the install of the 7.70 server, and my new problem is that I get this message: "(username) is not...- sret

I tried that now, nothing happened. But I got a response from SilverFern that might have solved it. I installed version 22.04.3 of Ubuntu, and apparently it's very important that it's specifically version 22.04.2, the one it's been proven to work on. So I will reinstall to that version and hope... -

Your instruction was not the issue. I tried to figure out how to run the commands, and I got fooled by someone on the internet saying to hit alt+f2 to open it, and the resulting box looked very right. When I eventually realized my mistake, I found other posts explaining that box to be something...- sret

I found the problem. The place where I tried to execute the commands wasn't correct, even though the box said "Run a Command". But when I try to open the real terminal, nothing happens. So turns out that's broken too and I'm back to square one again lol -

There was an early step with giving permissions. It was also a command, and the same thing happened then, but I figured that it must have worked without showing anything, and if it didn't work maybe it's okay because it sounded like an optional thing. With a lot of effort I managed to work my way through setting up a VM with Ubuntu, and I got the OT files in a folder ready for the install per step 3 in SilverFern's tutorial, but when I try to execute the commands provided later in that same step, nothing happens. The terminal just closes when...- sret

That sounds really awful and concerning, especially when it's hard to find proper information about my problem with the commands - it's easier to find solutions when you have actual errors. But thanks for the fast reply, I will try the other thread and hope for luck. Otherwise maybe I'll manage... -

Does the magic system also remove soul points? Those would be the most game ruining thing. I looked at old update notes (7.5, 7.6, 7.7) to refresh my memory on the changes, and the soul points, breaking spears, and worms for fishing is all gonna suck. I also hope the outfits didn't already... -

I very much appreciate that advice, but servers always go down eventually, especially when they're empty. Last time I played OTs I played one nearly alone for months, then it went down. I want a stable place where I can slowly progress for the next year or so without any interruption. -

The 7.7 one is what I looked at closely. I have a friend who studies programming that I showed it to an hour ago and he told me this is fairly complicated stuff for programmers, not for regular people who know nothing about coding. I guess since it's easy for you it's hard to see how difficult... -
