not really if you have like a book with you you can work fine with it, I have downloaded Linux in a Nutshell which explains what does every command does and gives some example of usage, so learning is quit easy it just takes sometime to get used to specially if you don't like terminal/command-prompt.I use Windows 7 Ultimate on my gaming to host my test server and preferably my future public server. I use Windows XP 32 bit on my other computer to run tests for my serv. I would say if you want to run just a server my best opinion would be use Windows Server. If you want another OS then use Linux(need lots of coding knowledge to update server)
