Element Fields Don't work (No Damage)

I'm having problems with the element fields talking general. The monster makes poison field and if you step on it, does nothing.. Aswell with spell runes they just don't do any damage.. I'm sorda confused, and well.. If someone could help me to fix this problem would be really awesome.
