General Question about Compiling!

Today I tried to compile the source of 0.3.5 and it works for me. No errors etc but the .exe is 4.2mb big. But the current 0.3.5 Distro is 5.8 Mb.
So I wanna ask, is it normal that compiling minimize the exe and if not, how can i find the solution for it since I had no error at my compile log.

it compiles with alot diffrent linkers etc to minimize the size and make it as small as possible. optimizing stuffs etc. It's normal
