Sorry if this is the wrong section, if so please would a mod/admin please move this to the correct place.

I use to play tibia and tibia open servers since around 2003 maybe earlier maybe later, i loved ots when i first played them and they were very very popular with lots of variety and opportunity, i have recently got spare time on my hands and my younger brother started playing real tibia, for me its changed a lot and i find it uninteresting, very monotonous and there seems to be no community i played tibia before longer than i should even when it was really going down hill mostly because i had a lot of friends that still played now i have none, so naturally this leads to me thinking bout playing some ots, the problem for me at least is that there is very little variety especially when it comes to war servers which i like the most :p So i was thinking about starting a ot server.

I was wondering how easy it is to set up a ot? Ive never had one before and ive noticed the types of ots i like do not seem to exist and would be interested in making some maybe or if there are downloads maybe doing that? Do you have to be really computer savey to run a server? or are there downloads available were its quite easy to just simply edit parts to meet your requirements and so fourth? I really would like to give this a shot, also if there are any groups or people interested in sharing a project (does this even happen?) are they easy to find?

I may ask more questions im kinda new to this sought of thing,

Thanks in advance

Jonny~

Wow, just realised this was my first post since joining in 2008 hehe.

If it's a download and run then yeah it's easy to open and run but eventually you will either need to learn or need: Scripters, programmers, mappers, webdesigners, etc. Once it grows, but at the start, yeah it's simple.

As @walkingdragon said you will eventually have to add new content to keep the players happy and entertained. You can't expect to have a successful server by simply downloading one.

Since you only have knowledge of how to play this game then it's not easy even if it is a download'n'run server so I suggest you to join any project to learn a bit and then you can consider starting your own server...

Do you have any knowledge of the following things?

AAC, Distro, Config.lua, Config.php & Compiling?

If you don't know then you better find out what it is, otherwise you're not ready mate! Good luck!

You don't need webdesigners, or programmers.

I was in one project called "bluebirdy". The most organised project I have ever seen. While were making the server, more experienced staff was teaching the younger ones. Too bad it got shut-down.

Thanks guys, that is some good food for thought, i cant remember why i joined in 2008 but i wish i had become a community member earlier!
