How would you establish an OTS which wouldnt die after 3 weeks?

Whats up with our projects?
Hey there!
I see more and more projects arising and even rly good ones keept updated for weeks, months and then they drown in the void. Well it wasnt Kassadins fault, no! more likely the project just was shut down and never informed the players. What happened to thos legends like "Scarlet Horn"? I assume most team members stopped working and the team leader cant finish it himself... So what about asking for help?
Anyway I would like to ask you guys how you would plan a successfull OTS Project. This is to help us getting custom projects going!

My idea would be not to work on a server for months/years but start with a small map and make regular content updates! That keeps the players exited and some community members here from otland would be glad to help(atleast I hope so). All in all a monthly(or maybee 2 week) update cycle would be cool and if the owner is too busy fixing bugs ask US, the Community for help! We have many mapping talents here like me(irony), Pero, No1, Mycos, magnetico....

So looking forward to your ideas now!

As you have already said, start with small map and update frequent. Also server needs to be stable, have good support and an original idea.
 
First of all you need to make a server which most of the community would enjoy. You need to make sure everything is balance, vocations, spells, items, exp ratios with monsters etc.. Also another very big thing is content, there are countless of servers that i've played where you play for a week and you've already done everything and you're just bored. You gotta have daily updates to keep players attracted, keep adding new things so players never get bored. I look on otland and otserlist every single day trying to find a decent server that I can actually play for a while but I have no luck.

Not nessecary. You can always add some rewards for donating that would not affect the gameplay, such as outfits or houses.
