A small game i made in the "Idle/clicker"-genre. Like most of these clicker games they are based of Cookie-Clicker.
The game and more information about it can be found in the link

Was fun for a little bit, but you cannot multitask and play your idle clicker is the biggest drawback. Did not get far because if I switch to a different tab or minimize it while working other tasks it just stops ticking automatically.

Hmm thats strange, cause when i try to it actually continue to run in the other tab. But if you close the game and come back later it will compare when you left to when you come back and give you water depending on the time.

Edit: I use the browser Brave. Maybe it behaves differently on other browsers
Edit2: I tried the game on Microsoft Edge and you sir are correct. It does not play when tabbing to a different tab or minimizing. Ill see what i can do about it.
Edit3: I fixed it. I lowered the amount of time you have to be offline in order for offline-water to start from 10 minutes to 5 minutes and the fix itself is that the game will save your progress when you minimize or go to a new tab and when you come back it will act like you have been offline and return you to the "Welcome Screen"

Played it for a couple of hours. What I can say is that clicking is many times more op than afk. The upgrades are pretty much 1:1 for click/second, but despite being able to click few times a second (with auto-clickers even more) you still have to click to get the combo bonus. And if you are already clicking then adding anything into /seconds is pointless since its so much less efficient.
Also having the option to reset dna spent would be nice (could cost 1 dna for example).

Resetting your DNA upgrades? How tf did i never think of that lol.

But yes, you are completely correct that /click is way stronger than /second in every way. /second is only for the passive while you are playing and it makes your offline water gain stronger since its based on it.

Im going to take a look at my code to see if i can implement resetting your DNA points without the need to change anything in the save file. I dont want players progress to become corrupt

Can I ask which level you achieved? And thanks for playing! I had no idea people played more than a few minutes before getting bored

My best was 35 on work pc, but I could easily go for 50 in less than an hour I think.

Here are bonuses from home pc.
u7goHz6.png

About the afk water/sec. Ratio is something like 1 hour of clicking = 30 hours of afk. May be less, may be more, hard to tell tbh.
Even ignoring the fact that you have to relog few times due to max offline time, I'd rather not upgrade the /second at all If im gonna play at least 1 hour a day.

Holy sheit. Thats a nice gem bonus you have. If you got all of those already and record lvl at 24 they could've been much harder. But anyway!

The game do have the "Clear Data" button at welcome screen, but restarting from scratch like that is not good unless you really want to.
If i manage to implement a reset DNA button then also "Used DNA" in objectives needs to reset. But you get those back quickly again.

I will think about how to do this correctly so no data will become corrupt.

How about you do "obtained dna" instead of "used dna"?
Ok .. Think I have managed to do the changes regarding resetting DNA upgrades. It was sweaty! But I'll do more testing and updating the game on itch tomorrow. No bugs allowed now when its live!

Is there no actual level limit? @Nemphis
There is no level limit no, but as you have already seen the world has a limit ;D. But you could go on 4ever.

And why the goal is to reach level 50 is because that is the last level the tree gets a new texture.

I doubt you are still playing since you reached level 50 already (and way faster than I expected!)

These are the changes I've made since last post here on OTLand. (They are not live yet, but will be soon)

  • Added the possibility to reset your DNA at the cost of 5 DNA(always 5). 1 would be way to low and it should hurt a little. I also think that you will get those 5 back pretty fast.
Resetting DNA will only apply after accepting changes like a normal ascension.
  • Improved the tutorial and made it smaller with less information so the player wont be overwhelmed with text. I also removed the big arrows and make the screen darker in areas where I don't want the player to focus during each step.
  • And with your feedback I also boosted /second upgrade to double from what it was! So you always get +2 each time you purchase /second instead of +1 to make it better for the idlers. Maybe it needs the be boosted even more. idk.
  • I made the Water Droplet next to the XP bar pulse each second also if you have any /second upgrades.
  • And since you finished the game in 2-3 days I boosted the amount of XP needed for each level slightly.
The new XP formula after level 50 is now
    (200+level) * level * level * level
    from
    200 * level * level * level
Example: XP required from level 40 to 41 is now: 15 360 000
what is was before, same levels: 12 800 000

How do you reset the DNA? Can't find it, or is it not live yet?

You might want to increase the exp even more.
I've reached lvl 50 in around 5 hours of playing and I was maxing everything first, even experimented a bit.

About /second what I would do to balance it is:
1. Name it idle instead
2. Add a boost that reduces the time for each tick - click is too op, cause you can click multiple times in 1 sec.
2.1 My proposition is -0.04s starting at the cost of 1 (+1 per level) with max 20 stacks (-0.8s).
3. Make the idle stack the combo.

Other suggestions:
-Most of the upgrades are useless until you abuse the shit out of the most op ones.
For example "pointy blue" gives you 15%. While green gemes gives you 50% at full gems (that is not too hard to achieve).
So until green gemes cost exceeds 50:15 ratio it is better, which is pretty much impossible.
The same would be with blue gems, but the only reason they are worth upgrading is that when you are at the beginning you can get upgrade the blue gem bonus multiple times in the same time you would be getting to level that gives you enough dna for the green one.

-Trouble Seeker is just worse and more expensive version of Combo Master.

-Combo meter description is confusing. It is not x1/x2/x3/x4, but rather +0%/+100%/+200%/+300%.

I love your dedication to the game! Big Thanks!

-the combo meter might be confusing but 2x is the same as 200% just as 1.0 is 100% which is the normal value. So a 50% increase would be 1.5.
-You have good points on the ascension upgrades but making drastic changes in that area requires me to change a lot of values in the save files, forcing players to start again from zero. And those outside of our conversation could be very mad for spending the time in vain.

The way the ascension upgrades are right now wont be changed. It is what it is really. I wanted as many upgrades I could think of at the time, and some are definitely stronger than others, and not balanced with their effect and cost.

Since this game is a teaching moment for me, I learn as much as I can from the feedback I get, especially from you, my friends and the few comments in itch.io and this experience will be used in my next game.

stuff like increasing XP per level or adding reset ascension upgrades I can change, it doesnt alter any value names in the save file, so it wont be corrupted.

edit: patch is live now

Hey again! Been playing off and on and I've come to two issues I think should be addressed to an extent. Using the reset DNA option, I've tested a few different ways to build for idle water per second and clicking, in either scenario it is undeniable that maxing the green gem for the first 800ish points is the best route for water gain. If you click, you'll spend nearly the same except that you'll also take 1 point into crit. The second trouble is that adding hitman 2 or more, it doesn't actually change the chance or power adding more points.

Its strange you dont feel any difference if you put points in Hitterman and Hittermanman. Even if in the code the crit multiplies over the total water gain.
I can see in my code that Hitterman and Hittermanman do add to the values of crit% and critstrenght so its very strange.

And regarding the best way to spend your DNA to reach level 50 for the first time I have no idea which upgrades are the strongest. I just made as many different upgrades as I could. The game is not loaded with values the player can play with. Without doing the math myself I thought the blue gem upgrade would be pretty strong for its cost and how many blue gems you can get in the early game.

Slightly offtopic: In my head the game wouldnt be that long and you wouldnt want to lvl more than perhaps 60, since the tree doesnt change appearance any longer after lvl 50.. But if you have more than 800 DNA points, oh damn! You play way more than i expected anyone to do. You and Dami1310 here on OTLand.

He meant the basic crit "hitman" after update you can put more points into it, but the value doesn't change obviously.

Regarding green gem - agreed.

About the lvl, if you upgrade everything to cost 60+ dna then you will definitely go above 60 lvl, if you play that much that is.
1k dna here atm, but I didn't really touch it for a while.

It is definitely a fun little time sink!

In regards to the Hit man, Dami is right. What I mean is this, if you look at the screenshots, hitman 1 gives 5% and 20%. Hitman 2+ (and any higher) stay at 5% and 20%.

For talents in general, as you can see with some of my other screenshots, the green gem starts having too costly a value around 800 and so at that point blue becomes a little bit more worth it for the next foreseeable future. The way I see my path playing out at this point is that after blue becomes too costly, I will put a few points into pointy blue and angry clouds

I have just achieved level 100 in under 1 minute (not a joke).
P2sEKho.png

Unfortunately I have found 2 game breaking bugs.
First one is that when you reset stats, the crit hit and chance value do not reset unlike their price. It means you can stack it pretty much infinitely for free.
The second one is that you can actually reach -100% cost of /click and /second. I have used the first one to check this, but you could do that without the first bug easily too (I had almost enough dna for it before abusing the bugs).

I understand the problems now ^^ Like i said before, i never thought anyone would play that much so I wouldnt need to put in a max level on some upgrades.

I'll see what I can do with the bugs you have mentioned! Thanks :D It still warms my heart both of you are still playing.

Edit: Im doing drastic changes that will will force players to reset their saves sadly. The bugs you gave me makes me do this. But what will be included is new ascension upgrades and some of them deleted.

Edit2:
Future Plans:
-Merging /click and /second upgrades.
As standard it will tick 5 times more than per click.
-Removing the two droplets and instead making the majority of the screen into one big transparent button. (events will be ontop of this button)
-Some DNA upgrades will be deleted. Some will change and some new ones will be added.
-Maybe fix the background.
-changing behaviour of combo meter.
