Last night there was an unexpected downtime on OtLand for approx three hours due to an issue with the server. We're sorry for that. During the downtime we switched from the unstable (Sid) distribution of Debian GNU/Linux to the stable one (Etch). This also fixed some other issues we had on the server such as dpkg (Debians Package Manager) being broken, so now we can really keep things up to date, so we hope that this will increase the stability of the server even more (before the reboot we had 106 days uptime on the server, and we're aiming for atleast one year uptime this time!).
Besides that, we also have some other news. We have recently enabled the paid subscription system in vBulletin, so now it's less trouble if you want to donate to us. The money from donations will be used to improve things for OtLand, perhaps we can purchase the vBulletin Project Tools in the future for use in hosted project boards. Donators will have some extra benefits as a thanks for supporting us, such as higher priority for support from the staff, a blue name in bold, etc.
In the next days we will start to accept applications for hosted project boards. There will be two types of hosted boards that we will accept, hosted servers and released servers. Two main requirements to get a hosted board will be to not have another forum somewhere else (or well, atleast the forum hosted here has to be the main one), and if you're choosing to have a board for a server that will be hosted the server has to be online already, if it's a server that's being released, you should have released atleast one version of it. Project boards with over two weeks of inactivity will be removed.
I've also received some private messages lately regarding positions in the OtLand Staff, here's a reply to everyone who's interested:
The current moderators are doing a great job which is currently enough for OtLand since we're still a small community, but we're growing fast, so as soon as we think we will need some more staff members (a reply to question 'when?': perhaps when we reach approx 7000 members) we will start to discuss in our staff board about you members to see who we think is active enough to join our staff. Note that there is no need to send us administrators a private message to become a staff member, it will not increase your chance to become a staff member either, if we think you're good enough to help us we will contact you!).
I'd also like to personally thank Casa for purchasing the vBulletin license for this forum.
