I take a npc to quest for storage ..
example the npc asks you for help to search for an item in that place
You will have to go for that item to pick it up and then return to deliver it and ask you to take a gift to a friend who is in another area ...
To be able to collect the item you have to have the npc storage without the storage you will not be able to pick it up or talk to the npc friend
