Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Borys, I am 23 years old and I am new to this community. My native language is polish, but I can speak in english as well. I have some minor knowledge about creating OTServers, but I am still a newbie and in need of constant help. I tried creating some topics first, but they didn't received much attention and that is the reason why I decided to pay someone for being my own teacher.

General idea

I want to create a custom server based either on Gothic or on Vikings, I think the latter is better idea since it will require much less work to get it running, but I feel like Gothic would be much more popular especially amongst polish community where the original game is still very beloved.

Server requirements

I am oldschool Tibia fan, which is the reason why i don't like many of the features added to the game later on. I would like my server to have:
  • Old chat system - no NPC only channel, all NPCs talk in default chat.
  • Old PvP system - white skull for unjustified attack on another player, red skull after third frag, yellow skull for attacking white skull, green skull for party, pz lock for attacking white/red skull, the one to last hit is the one to get the frag, no anti-trap, anti-stack and anti-hop systems, just like it used to be in 7.6-8.1 Tibia
  • Old spell system (no cooldowns)
  • Old NPC trade system - no trade window, all trades in default chat, also no market
  • Old animations - each 32x32 outfit/monster got 12 graphics - 3 for each direction
  • No mount system

This creates another problem, it looks like the perfect Tibia version for my server would be 8.1 which is free from the features listed above, but I could not find any distribution with source code dedicated to work with Tibia 8.1, so most likely I will have to downgrade a server which looks like a pretty hard task for me.

Other topics I will need help with

  • Making ZnoteACC compatible with my server, also some configuring and minor changes to layout
  • Configuring and minor editing OTClient, small changes like additional inventory slots, different skill names
  • Finding correct versions and configuring tools like RME Map editor, SPR, object, .dat editors
  • Creating few custom scripts, for example I would like to disable changing/wearing items in inventory during combat
  • Opening ports, buying and using a domain and maybe later renting a hosting service
  • Choosing right tools to compile the server, tracking bugs and solving them

Payments

Unfortunately in my current job I earn only 1500 PLN which is like 375$ a month and I still have to pay the bills and other expenses, buy food, clothes and such. Which is why you shouldn't expect to be well paid, I can only ensure you that I will do my best to encourage healthy and fair cooperation. All payments through Paypal, communication via mail / skype / teamviewer and other tools if you like.

Most of the knowledge you require languages, protocols etc... if not all is completely free online.
Having someone teach you everything you need to know is near impossible, a lot of the knowledge people have acquired came from trial and error, not something you normally find in a book or blog :p

My advice to you is to pick a subject you are relatively good at, like myself I am a decent scripter, so I write scripts mainly in lua, I know a little bit of everything but my strong point is scripting, some people can't script but they can map or are good graphic artists.. some people are just good with people ( I am not one of those people :p )

Join or form a team would be the best way to learn the ropes, while you are focusing on your strong points, maybe some one on your team who is better at it then you will take you under their wing.. you never know until you try :)

Well, good luck!
