yeah it looks rather grey and dull..

Me neither actually, but I made the header long ago and I don't have the PSD file so cant change, and cba to make a new one.

About the grey, there will be more colours later :]

And I don't really like to have text-images because if you want to change them you have to use photoshop and lots of stuff, not just change in the php doc
