Actually .PNG is pretty fine, it's like between .jpeg and .bmp - not too large shitty and not too shitty quality.

Obviously JPEG, since it takes a lot less space than PNG and the quality loss is minimal(depends on how hard you have compressed it thu). If someone wants to see the map in all details, just download it, screenshots are here just to give us approximate idea of what will we be downloading and high resolution pictures are not needed for that.
