A black hilt is wrong. You are not suppose to use all black in hilt should at least explain about not using black colours in the weapon.

This is a solid basic tutorial in my opinion. Since paint is so basic. You can take these steps and basically transform them into any other drawing program/ Photoshop/ Illustrator/ Open Canvas/ PSP etc.

i think that the most important thing is a sprite layout, shading and lighting is not a trouble
