i get a red box under the go button when editing anything in my online database that reads:

Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

what does this mean, how do i fix this, i cant make myself gm, it keeps resetting my group_id to 0 after i change it to 6. so frustration and annoying. someone please help.

I hope your character is offline when changing the group id?

I believe you need to set your control user password in the config file in xampp or uniserver, whatever you are using. By default control user name: 'pma' password is usually blank by default. If you changed this when setting up the PHP program, you need to also edit it in the config file in the actual folder, or this error will occur.
