NEW YORK (AP)—The Super Bowl was watched by more than 106 million people, surpassing the 1983 finale of “M-A-S-H” to become the most-watched program in television history.

The Nielsen Co. estimated Monday that 106.5 million people watched the New Orleans Saints upset the Indianapolis Colts. That beats the “M-A-S-H” finale, which had 105.97 million viewers in an era when there were fewer television sets.

Compelling story lines involving the city of New Orleans and its recovery from Hurricane Katrina and the quest for a second Super Bowl ring for Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning(notes) propelled the viewership.

The game also obliterated the previous record viewership for a Super Bowl— last year’s game between Arizona and Pittsburgh in which 98.7 million people watched.

No, even curling is better then american football (why do you guys even call it football, it got more in common with rugby and handball :P)
 
It's nothing even close to Rugby.
It LOOKS like it by the way you tackle other players and the shape of the ball, but the gameplay is nothing CLOSE to it.
Soccer is the most popular sport to PLAY, but not to watch as an entertainment. Seriously, give yourself a year and watch football, you'll regret what you said.
 
People have different opinions on which sport they like, most people outside the United States hate football, but people in the United States hate soccer, there's no BEST sport, it's widely arguable. Half of Canada tuned in and watched the Super Bowl, as well as 100 million others worldwide. It's a great sport to watch on television. So really, people have different likings and there is no BEST sport on the planet.

Anyways, using the roman numerals to number each Super Bowl is a 44 year old tradition. It's been like that since the first days.
 
Oh soccer is fun to play in USA, but watching it kills people.

The gameplay is actually somewhat similar but rules and shit is way different.

I like american football more than Rugby though (rugby is a take off of American Footbal)
 
Its all about what you grow up around for most people. Most of the world has soccer where they live so most people will like soccer more. But in the U.S. American Football is the most popular sport so we are more used to it and favor it, same as the rest of the world favoring soccer (majority). Neither sport sucks, just people have different opinions. I hate watching both, but the both are fun to play. Also I love playing FIFA and I love watching the Superbowl.
 
If I had to choose between football and volleyball I would also choose
volleyball, BUT ONLY WOMEN VOLLEYBALL :D

God damn it, they look so sweet and sexy in their outfits :D

More like 3/4ths of Canada. Out of the 20 or so houses along my street, only 1 of them wasn't watching the Superbowl, and that's because they weren't home.
