Hey, I know I'm supposed to be one of those computer nerds that know about Software/hardware but I kinda wanted to ask the community if anybody knew any USB Flashdrive Antivirus tools (that installs and protects the USB it'self). Any help will be appreciated and repped. (No custom links unless it's to the actuall homepage please.)

I don't need to format it, I want to know a good pendrive antivirus tool. Formatting a USB will not protect it constantly from viruses.

Gentoo? How good is it?

Completely non relevant. Hes going the "use linux you wont get virus" style.

The USB drive is more or less another hard drive. (With a heavily reduced size, to enforce portability for a decent dollar).
The USB could have an auto-run antivirus program running but it would work horribly. A ton of elements would require the computer user to verify access to actions taken and so on.

The solution I feel would be to just install Microsoft security essentials (or any other preferred antivirus program) and scan the usb drive every time its plugged in to your computer. (or make it automatic, scan when disk station is available).

You could also make an autorun "virus" on the usb drive to search for other viruses and destroy them, as well as listening to what the computer is sending to the usb drive to detect viruses on the go and eliminate them. I bet you won't manage this tho as it is quite complex.

I figured Gentoo sounded familiar, just forgot the basic Linux OS... As you said for the antiviruses, I'd prefer like a portable antivirus that will open and protect the USB not something I'll install onto the pc and leave be. It tends to be a real hassle, atm I got something called Naevius but I don't really like the interface. It's installed onto my USB so I'm sure there is something more user-friendly out there.

so the reason for the USB to be protected is, so when you connect it to a public computer and keep your Pendrive from catching a virus, but as far as I know, most virus do not infect pendrives unless intended to do so or if you copy an infected file. In the end the reason for virus being in a pendrive is more user fault than because of an infected computer.

Actually there are viruses that will go into any file opened or ran. Like Brontok and the Daprosy worm.
