I think we need better tutorials on this site, there is an extreme amount of people on this site launching servers but never bothering to learn any coding language what so ever.

I don't know how many of the same scripts I have corrected for people, or try to resolve their connection issues or missing database tables or explained to people about data types etc..

It is not just limited to programming, compiling is also an issue, so is setting permissions on a firewall, or commands in linux, installing AAC's or knowing the short cuts etc.

I spent my Sunday helping someone fix all the errors on their server it only took me about 2 hours to fix everything and setup an AAC.

This person knew absolutely nothing about programming, databases, firewalls, mapping.. .absolutely nothing and didn't want to take part in any aspect of the server other than to launch it.

I accept full responsibility for telling him he could launch the server.. because frankly he was a bit of a pain in the butt and would or could not understand why I was telling him to wait.

Sigh...

Installing a server, an AAC and updating it could be done a lot differently and it could benefit everyone even the none-coders.. but there is so much diversity on these forums from the distros to the aac's that its no wonder these problems are a constant..

Its a given knowing how to setup a server compile it and doing all the bells and whistle takes time to learn but it just doesn't seem like there is any progress being made.

Yes I know I need to finish the tutorial "Lua Broken Down"...

I love it here on otland and almost every time I correct or write a script for someone I try to explain a bit about it, but most of the time I feel like I am talking to myself :(
