This is not about OTLand Cloud but another project my friend and me are currently working on (which is currently just made as a demo and not published yet).

So what is there you expect from a file sharing/upload site?
What is okay to charge for and what is just annoying you?

I would never pay for file uploading. Too many free alternatives out there. That's just my 2 cents. It's usually not the cost, as this amoint is usually small. it's the time and putting all my information into yet another site.

So you are basicly against any sort of signup process?

That and just having to put in my name last name street address and everything to pay. The money is usually not the reason I'd avoid using a paid service.

I have to agree.
The best way to make an upload site survive is advertising on it... but require payments from the uploaders is a bad way to go.

I haven't paid one single cent to one single upload site... ever.. and I never will.
But I can live with that the upload site show me some advertises around my download links..

What about only having express checkout by paypal? Registering an account would only require e-mail, payment by paypal.

@OpenTibiaServer this is where adblock begins to trully shine.. :/

What possible premium services can a file sharing site offer? (More ideas?)
- Download countdown (sux and id not want to do that)
- Downloadspeed limitation (i hate that even more so nope)
- Max. Upload size (freemium 500mb, premium unlimited --> fair?!)
- Bandwith per 24/h (only allow freemium to download files of X mb/day. Dont like this idea though)
- Advertisement (I personally hate pop ups and such so if any it would be some banner. Still adblock..)

my opinion of a good file hosting/sharing service;
- dragging and dropping files feature (if it dont got it, i leave directly)
- very very userfriendly and easy to use (front page should be main focus)
- once uploaded, maybe smthng like gyazo, where your download link gets copied automatically

freemium limitations id prefer to have?
downloadspeed limitation (i simply dont download/upload enough files to care, and if i would, i surely would upgrade to premium because of that)
- ads such as banners
- download countdown, if under 10 seconds only~~

EDIT:
a good example would be to compare youtube vids to mp3 pages;
http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ with

http://convert2mp3.net/en/
http://www.vidtomp3.com/

where the first one looks very userfriendly and clean for its purpose(listed top1 google), and the rest looks like utter shit where you may catch a virus on the run

id say in terms of filesharing, speedyshare looks pretty damn clean tho!

It's interesting to hear that youd prefer dl speed limitation.
I guess we will add banners nonetheless (even if ppl use adblock).
About the dl countdown: I wont add any, its annoying

Everyone here that is against paying for a service to upload content to a server should no longer have a pay shop on their site...

People on this site are often uploading only mbs of data, for more intesive users you should contain faster speeds with higher upload caps.

For free users; a maximum of 50mb files at 5mbps
With premium users having a maximum of 5gb per file at 50-100 mbps.

Just always remember, OTLand is not a place to try and deploy a premium based service.
No one here will support you, well atleast a majority wont due to the fact they will try and talk you out of it; then secretly try to do it themselves or simply have no intention on paying for anything. Lulz!

Reasons not to consult OTLand members about this;
1. Too many alternatives.
2. Most users on otland dont need crazy uploading/downloading services; the current (free services) seem to be sufficient that there isnt much room for competition.
3. No body wants to pay unless you are providing something everyone else cant.

This is only my personal opinion and by no way reflects the rest of the community.
Either way, good luck on your buisness adventures!

Adblock is pretty easy to detect..

1: Block users from upload/downloading if adblock is enabeled.
2: Show a screen "We're terrible sorry for blocking you :( , but our site survives on the ads we have, please add our site to your adblocks whitelist and you'll be instantly unblocked again :D [Added it to white list yet? -Refresh page-]"

I partly agree to the extent that people will have to understand that projects need to be paid for and if it is only to cover the resources.

@Extrodus
Thanks for your input regarding the file size. To get facts straight: This projects target group is not necessarily Otland and its members. Otland and its target group is a party that might possibly be using this service.
In no way do I expect that Otland users cover my entire service costs. A file sharing service should be keept simple: Easy to use for anyone and powerful enough to suit everyones needs. Thus while Otlands majority might not be needing this service I consider it fair asking their opinion.

@OpenTibiaServer
Being an internet usee myself, AdBlock is freedom of choice and most likely wont be blocked.

Ofc it is.. but most people use it to avoid really annoying ads..
I can myself, consider whitelist a webpage that asks for it if the ads are at decent level and content..

The websites I prefer to completely ignore, is those with 10000000000000 porno ads and pop-ups and sites that have 50 different ads within a normal 1000x1000 screen frame.

But a website to download from, I could accept that the entire header is one big advertisement.. and people would for sure pay extra if they could use the entire header for themselves :p

for example (sorry for pretty poor made screen but I only used paint little fast to draw an example)
