You can also think of an antidote rune/potion or a single health potion but depending on your world, these might be too valuable.

In the taverns in my project, players can get daily knapsacks that contain some fruits (which give instant buffs like hp/mana) and light sources, just things that aren't that valuable but are most practical. You can also scale the items depending on the level of the player, making it more useful even on higher levels.
