Yo, im this close l-l from buying a dedicated server but not sure where from or what requirements there are for hosting an ot server.

i used to have real maps that used 1gb ram, there is custom maps (swev, evolutions 200-600mb ram used), and there is custom real maps that might go over 1gb ram.

i dont think processor is something you need to look at,
mbit should be 100 and bandwidth unlimited/unmetered (important)

i recommend server4you.

EDIT: Ubuntu is most popular, i dont know if u can run OT on any other linux- but thats my experience.

kkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

@up wrong.

for a Evo Server you should have atleast 3 GB Ram.

For a real map you should have 8 Gb or more.

For bandwidth 1000/1000 is the best ofc but you can manage with 100/100

Look so you get a dedi that can handle a bit of DDos

Where are you located? so i know what company to recommend

I ran a real map on 4gb ram computer -> it said "Usage: 1.5gb ram on OTS exe" ->
I forgot that linux itself uses some ram too, but its more or less same -_
Evo servers? they say usage 200-300mb ram.

What are u talking about?
second , want me to take screenshot?
..........

-> I have 1.5 gb ram for my swev, should suffice...

Evo 3 gb? hope you are joking ..
RL map 6-10 gb => the better
evo 1gb is more then enough if you are using linux.

Add atleast 1 gb if you are gonna be using windows tho

Would you say Linux vps C would work for an evo server?

bandwidth unlimited is positive to have (C has 2000 GB traffic, which means, if you have too much players, server would shutdown)

4gb ram is too much for evo.

i know ipeer is one of the first results on google, but u have to search a lot to find a good server.

a good VPS search tool: serverbear (google it).
i used it to find fdcservers (1.5gb ram, unlimited bandwidth for 30$).

BUT i dont recommend fdcservers, they had "Internal error (Core dumped)" on most OT startups,
only few OT worked-_

OS = 1 GB
Server 1-1.5 GB
Then you have the SQL Server can easily use 1 GB ram
And the Web Server also use a bit.

Capacity: 80 GB
CPU: 2,53 GHz
The number of cores in CPU : 1
RAM memory: 3072 MB
Connection capacity: 100Mbps
Monthly transfer: unlimited
Virtualization: KVM

to be sure, I would at least have 2 CPU's, I dont know if cpu is used much with OTServ (I only seen them at 100% when ddos).
RAM is expensive, but do as u want

and I never seen a mysql server on 1GB ram, jocce -_

Then maybe you have never had more then 50 players on your server :p

http://www.mysqlcalculator.com

Ive had 60-70 active players at most. But maybe u are right.
I still dont see the word "Easily" in the 1gb usage -_

ive made servers since 7.1s, but I havent seen problems with MYSQL ram usage -_

-_?
oh, and second, im installing ubuntu 12.04 on 512 mb ram, to see if u are correct -_

edit1: Ubuntu started

FYI: ubuntu uses 350 mb ram, according to my virtualbox computer.

oh bai.

Znote said:
1: 1x 2.4Ghz 2GB RAM. OTs with 60+ players online and MAP size 30 - 60MB.
2: 1x 2.4Ghz 1GB RAM. OTs with 60+ players online and MAP size ~30MB or lower.
3: 1x 2.4Ghz 1GB RAM. OTs with 60+ players online and MAP size ~30MB or lower.

If you use a small map(custom) and linux you hell dont need 3gb, this is what znote used for his service. One of my servers was used on his 1gb. Restart everyday (global save) to reset the memory usage. Other than that there was no problem.

You can't make a tests with 0-60 players online -.-

Come back when you run a server with 500-1000 people online on 1GB ram.

60? I had 70.-_

I dont believe many servers has 500-1000 players, unless AFK trainers - especially not a custom, or SWEV server.
Im not saying its not possible, but its very unusual.

You can easily get 500players online on the most active times a day if you have a good server.

Update:

Just checked our Mysql server on work that runs on Red hat.

It uses 800MB * 2 (Load balancing)
I can assure you that our database is smaller then a server with 200 players
