Hex?!

Can someone who's skilled with hex editing? I'm planning on making a remake of pokemon emerald for vba and I really need some pointers on how I should go about it and how I should approach understanding hex better.

I have some custom maps done and am soon to start editing palletes but all of that can wait.

Well, you got plenty of editors for rooms. Most of the text etc are encoded in a dual byte way, so you can't read it or edit it with a normal hex editor.

Advance-Text allows you to edit text.
Advance-Map allows you to edit the map.
To edit the XSE scripts you can use XSE Scripting Tool (sort of a diassmebler).

I have those and no that already. But this is just a start because pokemon is easy. I chose it to start undertanding hex better.

Please don't start modding half encrypted rooms, start with something simple, like Tibia, instead.
