There's absolutely nothing wrong in Vista after you install the latest updates - I used it until W7 came out and had zero complaints.

There are bugs that I got with vista that are still not fixed.

Go to Windows 7, there's seriously no point going back to XP unless your getting it free and have to pay for Windows 7 Testing shows that windows 7 has about the same performance as XP but also comes with some really useful features that you won't be able to go back on imo

I suggest you stop running everything from Crysis to AutoCAD 2010 at the same time: I'm sure that only using the resources your computer has will solve any problems with slowdowns!

His build doesn't seem to be anything mind-blowing, but the hardware he has obviously is far from outdated and has zero problems with running a modern operating system. Perhaps he is asking because of all kinds of misleading assholes in OTLand using anecdotal evidence in favor of Windows XP causing unnecessary confusion!

Windows XP is only better because it was an amazing step up from 98 that people really loved.
Basically started the modern computer systems we use today, so they perfected it quickly. I assume they will do the same with Windows 7.

- Windows 7 has a higher copying speed.
- Opening files, such as large pdfs, and other such applications are faster.

All in all it depends on the hardware, using a regular PC with say 2 GB RAM, Dual-CoreE5200 CPU, and an TI Radeon HD4550 graphics card. Windows 7 will beat XP in every scenario.

If you don't want to pay for windows 7 you may download an illegal copy and use a tool called removewat to validate it.

If your new computer is a good gaming computer, then ofcourse use Windows 7. You will only gain an better performance with XP if you use a low-end computer or a regular laptop.

And aside from performance. (Since in many cases Linux is the best option) you have great compatibility with games you buy in your local store.

Don't know about 'working', but all I can say about 'look' it's just theme/win shell for effects, so don't compare these systems in case of themes.
