So hello everyone, this thread is here to talk about religions but its not the place to be racial or tell the others wich religion is the best and so on.
I wanna talk in this thread about the religions itself, not extremists or fanatics, i wanna talk about the meaning of the religion and what its about.
Ofc can there also be bad sides about religions but try to stay focused and dont get carried away.

There will be some rules:
* No racial comments
* No talk about extremistic groups [Arian Brotherhood, Al Qaeda etc]
* Focus on the good side and on the meaning of the religion
* If u wanna post something negative about a religion than think about it for a minute and dont get carried away!
* If u just wanna post to hate on religions or to tell people that there is no god than just click on the red X on the right corner of your browser and dont even bother posting.

If u violate one of these will i report you instantly and if it gets extreme will i tell a mod to close it!

So now to me:
So you know abit about me and why im a muslim, you need some background info for that.
Im 18 years old and im well educated, i grew up in a nice neighbourhood and ive got friends with all kinds of religions.
Also if some might say *If your so well educated why do you believe in something like that*, the answer is easy, because i want to, because it gives me hope.

I am a believing muslim, i was raised as one but that doesnt mean too much since i could also be an atheist.
The reason why i love the islam is that its a very peacefull religion with many wonderfull rituals, it always helps me when im down and i believe in it because it gives me hope, sadly it has got a bad reputation because of the extremistic groups but i think every religion has such a reputation over a period of time.

Im also very interested in other religions, one of my favorite religions is the buddhism, its one of the most interesting religions and also if your not a buddhist should you still learn abit about it.

So now tell me, why have you chosen your religion and why is it important to you and what does it mean to you?

Basically I do not believe in any religions(I have my reasons), but I do appreciate what various good religions has done for this world and it people, like I've said in another post, one should take in what is good about a religion and discard what is bad, you do not have to be a "believer", but at least take the time to understand such religion, since religion on its self has close bonds to many, if not all, cultures and has played a good(and bad) role in this world.

It is good if people share these kinds of things with others even if it's not their religion or even believe in it.

so let's all participate and share our thoughts about religion and your beliefs.

Yes, I'm proud to be a Muslim. Peace-loving :)

First: Let me tell you something what people don't know or just ignore because they don't really care about the truth...

Starting with this...
A Jew can grow his beard in order to practice his faith.

But when Muslim does the same, he is an extremist and terrorist!

Any girl can go to university wearing what she wills and have her rights and freedom? (piercing etc.)

But when a Muslim Girl/Lady wears Hijab (headscarf), they prevent her from entering the university!

When a Jew kills someone, religion is not mentioned, but when a Muslim is charged with a crime, it is Islam that goes to trial!

When someone sacrfices himself to keep others alive, he is noble and everyone respects him.

But when a Palestinian does that to save his son from being killed, his brother's arm being broken, his mother being raped, his home being destroyed, and his mosque being violated --- He gets the title of 'terrorist'! Why? Because he is a "Muslim"!

:(

Without giving a glance at Islamic laws, people believe what the newspapers say. But the question is: What the Holy QURAN says!

I'm not hating any religions this is just for people that think that real Muslims are bad people...

I respect all religions but please don't judge people that are believing in Allah. Go ahead...

Thank you for that post and for your thoughts sheinen.

Sacrifices? If someone "sacrifices" i'm pretty sure it's in a war.
But when someone kills innocent people and call it "sacrifice" he should indeed be called a terrorist.

Stop it right there.
Read the rules, dont get carried away.

you should've started with: i think... ~. since this is your opinion.

I think religions have both pros and cons, mosly cons though. A lot is open for interpretation, something I dislike because humans love twisting things around to fit the situation.

A question to people belonging to a religion; have you checked out other religions as well?

Thats what this thread is for, thats why i said i wanna hear the good sides of your religions and why your believing in it, people should get open for other religions because the main goal of a religion is to live a life of happiness and hope, i think if everyone would be open to other religions would the world be a better place.
So thank you alot for that post.

I am sensing a hint of bias, perhaps prejudice...towards Jews...please correct me immediately if I am wrong. I think that the Palestinians and Israelis should work out a deal to split the land and indeed that is what most Israelis themselves want, but it is the fear of an actual state being ruled by the HAMAS. It is one thing to fight for your independence(Israel does not persecute Palestinians), it is another thing to kill innocent people and call it "fighting for Islam", and that is exactly why many people are prejudice towards Muslims. I myself do not believe all of the "Muslim terrorist" bullshit, there are extremists in EVERY religion, and every ethnicity...the KKK, Aryan Brotherhood, etc...I am Polish, and if I talk to some mountain people who are uneducated some of them think that the Polish Race is the "Chosen Race", yes lol. I have many Muslim friends and from my experience the extremists are a very small group. But the stereotype started in the United States mainly, because so many people here are uneducated and oblivious to the world around them...

I agree with your viewpoint that only certain races are mentioned...and I believe it is wrong. But they usually mention Muslim because they are a minority(in the United States), and Christians are a majority. But either way it is still a little prejudiced.

@Topic
I am a Catholic, and I like the Catholic RELIGION, it preaches kindness, goodness to your neighbor etc...
However I am against the Catholic Church today, in my opinion it is mostly greed and corruption, and many times forcing your religion on someone. Even in my religion classes(I go to a Catholic school they are required), when we learn morality we learn what "the Church" teaching is, and what "the Church" thinks is right...hell I don't give a crap what the Church says that doesn't make it right...I mean a few hundred years ago the Church burned people because they were suspected of witchcraft. So I am a complete follower of the Catholic morality, not Catholic Church morality. There is a big difference.

Thank you alot for that post Dixter you seem very well educated and i have to say, church is not = religion, thats a good example and everyone should take that advice, just cause a church says something that you dont want to (For example being forced to pay money, hurt other people), doesnt means that you have to do it, do what you feel is right for yourself, having a religion just because your parents/friends tell you to is simply wrong.

Christian history is cruel but also every other religions history is/was cruel, its mostly the churches or extremists that do that kind of stuff, megalomaniacs that think that theyr religion can/should be the only one on earth, ive read the bible and there are so many awsome and interesting storys (Sorry if that sounds dumb) and i think you can learn in every religion something good.

And Sheinen, yes thats a issue in some countrys but ive read trough your post again and it seems like your also a bit racist.

I am not sure if he is prejudiced towards Jews, perhaps he is only giving an example. We should wait for his response.

Basically I do not like to "share" my "disbeliefs" since I do not like to impose myself upon anyone, but I will share(vaguely) how I came to my conclusions.

I first started like perhaps many American/Puerto Rican, a Catholic and it was something similar to what was with Dixter, after many years I changed to Pentecostal, and same as any other religion there were extremist(though they will not try to kill you, they would shove their religion down your throat), so after a few years I starter to "think", which is something many, if not all religions keep you from doing(extremist or not) and that lead me to "remove" myself from any kind of religion and belief, in my time of "self-exile" from religions I've come to learn many things that no religion can teach, I've gained the ability to at least understand and because of all of that I have been able to see the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of religions.

I'm not the smartest, I do not have all the answers, I am moral and immoral, I'm not God nor the devil, I have learned to love and to hate, to create and destroy, to cherish and to belittle and after saying all that, I will tell you who I am... I am human!

I have learned a lot on my own little trials, even still I know I need a long way to go.
And that is my story summarized!

Thank you shinmaru, exactly that is the kind of post i wanted in this thread!

Well... I don't know where to start...

I always tried to do the good, independent of catolicism, judaism and so on, I used to believe in God, like something I can't describe, I just feel it... But I know it isn't very much as catolicism says...

But around 3 months ago, the day after new year party, I was talking to my father's friend... He is sculptor, he sculpts celestial statues and things like this, we talked about somethings I honestly don't remember now, but while I was talking to him I felt secure, a calming energy emanating in the ambient... He gave me two books, and told me to read so I get to know him better...

I kept these books in my wardrobe until 2 weeks ago... It was around 2 a.m, it was raining and I was laying in my bed sleepless, I got up and looked trough the window... Suddenly I wanted to get out, I took my skate and ride it for like one and a half hour, until I reached a square... I sat in a bench and started to read... I discovered he is famous because of sights of Maria, his books tells histories from his childhood until nowadays, and seriously, what a million priests couldn't convince me, one man did, one man I felt he was honest and speak the truth. His reports are so vivid and I feel it's true, I don't think it's true because I want to believe something, I feel it, because I... feel... It's undescritible...

At the time I accepted this and saw it as a true, not the catolicism true (btw, he don't like priests, in his book he said the devil appeared to him in form of a priest), but my truth and faith, I feel... good...

If you are a good person and always try to help as you can and stuff, don't close your mind to religion, not catolicism or stuff, your religion...

And here's a pic of him, holding one of his Maria's sculptures, handing it to the Pope:
