Pointless thread I guess, but maybe people in the world should not think every kid is alike.

Tell me, does everyone think hacking is cool?

A 'Black Hat' -

A Black Hat is classed as someone who hacks or exploits vulnerabilities, uses cracks or any sort of hack to gain something.

A 'Gray Hat' -

A Gray Hat is classed as someone who does or uses illegal tools or even creates them, though tells people how to fix, patch exploits or helps newbs to learn how to break into the hacking industry.

A 'White Hat' -

A White Hat is classed as someone who patches exploits or informs people of vulnerability. They basically protect and secure, they may use or examine a hack program just to test how it works, but will try not to cause major harm, if this happens they will prevent it asap.

There's something you missed though, there are 2 types of "hackers", Hackers and Crackers

Hackers are those people that make stuff like Game Cracks and NoCd Patchers and any kind of non-damaging attack and just do it for the challenge
Crackers are the bad people, they are the ones that are actually invading networks and damaging their systems and stealing information

The difference is pretty big and while the media just says "Hackers attacked ...", its just a way that the media has classified them, because I know some hackers and they hate being grouped with Crackers

You can see more information about the difference between Hackers and Crackers here, its very detailed and quite informative

I did not miss anything.
Your two 'hackers' & 'crackers' are both in the black hat or perhaps the gray hat area.

Hackers = like the guys who created the program to run tibia and all that stuff..
Crackers = d*ck heads.

To run Tibia?
I dont get it, that would be a programmer?

exactly, hackers aren't bad people, crackers are the ones that give a bad name to all the hackers in the world
just look at Anonymous, they are crackers, others like RELOADED and ViTALiTY are simply hackers, teams that you simply never hear about unless you already know them, as hackers usually prefer to stay by the shadows while crackers like Anonymous like to be on the media

according to JargonWiki

Hacker:
1) A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary. RFC1392, the Internet Users' Glossary, usefully amplifies this as: A person who delights in having an intimate understanding of the internal workings of a system, computers and computer networks in particular.
...
8) [deprecated] A malicious meddler who tries to discover sensitive information by poking around. Hence password hacker, network hacker. The correct term for this sense is cracker.

EDIT:
he means "like the guys who created the first OTServer" I guess

I can give you an underground site that would put this 'definition' to shame.
It's bullshit, a hacker is a hacker, what everyone says it is.
A cracker, is somebody who is supplied by a hacker, therefore the hacker is supplying the cracker.

Understand?

Your clearly fed up by the bullsh*t media publishes, look at it this way.. OT Lua scripters.. They're hackers. They make stuff without harming the actual company {Cipsoft} Sure we took many players from them, but the players DECIDED to come, we didnt FORCE them to come.. And now a person DDoS'ing an OT is a cracker, he's just a straight up d*ck trying to ruin the gameplay of others

I 100% agree with Prest, there is a clear difference between Hackers and Crackers and that difference is pretty clear and in short words:

Hackers don't harm others, Crackers do

Hackers are your Grey Hats, Crackers are your Black Hats, according to your description on your first post

No.
'omg i got cracked by prest'
Think what you like, I can give you a link right now to a big community of HACKERS who use RATS, MySQL injection, Crypts, Batch, whatever you like, they will call themselves 'HACKERS' not 'CRACKERS'.

And I'm sure at least one person out of 1000 active members would say, 'we are not hackers we are crackers'
