The time of Aragon, calling all warriors!

Server Information:

World: Argonia
Client: 10.31+
Map: Custom, from scratch.
Current Size of Map: 23MB - 6 Towns - 3 Villages
Main form of gaining EXP: Follow the NPC Quests/Story Line.
Rates: Low/RPG - yet not too difficult.
Donation Items: No.
Premium Features: Yes.

Concept:
Hello there, allow me to introduce you to Aragon. A unique server idea, based around a complete quest/story line from start to finish. The concept of this server can be well understood if you've ever played Fable or completed the quest Service in Yalahar on real tibia.

The concept is, the player will start the game already in a quest where he will have to follow the story in order to unlock the next area and move on with the quest line. The entire server, and map is based around this story and it is impossible to play the entire map without following the story and unlocking areas. Now this is where the Fable idea comes in.. at a certain point in the quest, after you find out what is happening in the realm. The player will have to decide whether he/she wants to be good, or evil. Which basically means, either siding with the evil forces to gain control of the realm or helping the citizens of Argonia reclaim their lands.

Leveling System:
The main form of gaining experience at a rapid pace would be following the story line, and completing the NPC quests. Keeping in mind that the realm is at war with evil forces (The Forsaken One), there will of course be monsters/minions that dwell in caves waiting for a chance to strike any unsuspecting by-passers. As-well as engage in raiding local villages and towns. All monsters/minions also have levels (ex: [L.34] Cyclops), allowing any player under the level of the monster to receive bonus experience for killing it. (Level of player / Level of monster = difference of levels x exp multiplier = bonus experience given to player). This allows people to take a break from questing and hunt, while giving you the urge to try and kill higher level monsters for more experience.

Economy/Looting System:
Aragon will have a unique loot system to spice up the economy. Any item dropped by a creature has the chance of becoming a magical item and gaining up to 2 bonuses. The stats of the bonuses would depend on which class of drop it is (rare, legendary), and the bonuses depend on what type of item it is (sword, armor, distance). With this system in place, it allows more diversity when searching for weapons, and even allows a low level item to become rare for players at beginning stages.

Types of Loot: Normal (no bonuses), Common, Un-Common, Rare & Legendary.

End-Game:
Since the server is based on a quest/story line (with multiple hours of game-play), there will most definitely be an end-game story finisher. But just because the main story line is over does not mean that the game is done. There will be loads of side quests and hidden mysteries all over the map, it's just up to the player to continue and find them. There will also be premium islands which contain hidden story lines.

Beta Release?:
For those of you that are wondering, the beta series is almost ready for the public.
We should be online and starting the adventure by mid-October.

Purpose of Thread:
I want to gather as many concepts, stories and players for the server, while giving everyone a sneak peak and attracting new people to come join the team.

So please post any feedback, story-line ideas and unique system/game-play concepts here.

Aragon Sneak Peak:

As you begin your journey into Argonia, you find yourself waking up in a cozy bed..

Is there someone here, hello?
charollete1.png

I don't even know who you are, where am I?

As the player gets more information about his/her surroundings and whats happened, they are subjected to a shock therapy session to make sure the player is ready to return to battle.
In this case, the player has to attack target dummies and do a task for a local npc.
Once they finish this, they are to check in with General Sully; the military commander for the city.

Unlocking the town!

Once the player leaves the medical center, they greet General Sully

From here on the player learns of a strange energy being casted on the town from a mountain to the west.
Before returning to Argonith, you embark on a journey to figure out who is casting this spell, and why.

Questions Asked in the Thread

Q: What will the vocations be, will they be custom? If so provide the concepts please.
A: Yes, they will be customized take a look at the ideas so far.

Melee -
Warriors, will wield a shield and weapon to be a carry/tank.

Assassins, are ment to dual wield short swords and daggers as well as have a quicker attack speed but lower shielding to be noticeably weaker than warriors in tanking situations.

Range
-
Archers, will use bows/cross-bows with arrows and bolts, they can use spears but it will deal less damage than if you were a frontier. (Archers will easily be able to feltch arrows and bolts by woodcutting trees and getting wood)

Frontiers, will use spears and a shield to also be a type of carry but of course weaker than a warrior. (The max distance of spears will be set to 2-3 sqm)

Magic -
Warlocks, will specialize in undead/death spells and summoning minions/creeps to fight for them. (Rods)

Priests, will be the support/heal of the game. Focusing on healing and player support spells with secondary holy attack spells. (Staffs)

Elementalists (just an idea), will contain fire, energy, holy, ice and earth spells. The player must choose two elements to specialize in. Reason: Spells for this vocation will be upgradable for the elements chosen (Primary/Secondary). (Wands)

Shamans, will be an earth and fire specialist combing in party spells and chants. Can also summon some sorts of minions. (Staffs)

Why thank you kind sirs, I've put nearly 8 months of work into the story, server concept, and map so I'm hoping people will enjoy this.

This will be awesome :D
Can't wait till it releases and everyone can see how awesome it is :)

Great to hear you guys are liking the idea of this, remember; if there are any ideas you guys have for the server. Post them here!

@up
Cool :)
Sounds serious to me..
But:
When I wanna play with a friend but he is stuck somewhere in story we cant do much together eh?
Sounds a lil like tibia singleplayer :P

At the start of the game, if you want to do the story together and your friend is further ahead, you're friend would just have to come level with you until you get up to his/her part in the story to continue the dialog together. Since until level 35, you should never really be more than 30 minutes away from each other in the story.

You'll be happy to know, the world opens up around level 50, and everyone is together. You'll just be on different parts of the story mode, limited to certain areas. This allows people to freely quest together and go on hunts.

As time goes on and things are more thoroughly developed, we will have it so there will always be a quest that you and a friend can go start if you feel like doing something together but aren't at the same part of the story.
For example:
-a npc that gives daily tasks,
-a npc that has multiple tasks to choose from that can be redone when finished,
-a npc that gives missions requiring 3-5 people to start, then you go kill a boss together.

I also want to develop battlegrounds and arenas for the server, where people can use a talk action and join a group of people then get teleported to do a quest together or pvp as long as you are in a certain level range, but that is for the future. (This is something that will be completed once the Beta has launched, and everything else is functional to the point we can start working on new systems)

So until things are like that, you will have to keep contact with your friends; and start at the same time to always be close to each other in the story.

Hmm? I really wasn't trying to copy anyone, the server just kind of called for certain systems; so they were made ;) I'm glad Ascalon rocked, because we will try to amp it up even more!

From a developer's perspective alone, this server has gone through an -immense- amount of work. Seriously, to create a quest-based server, and I can't begin to speak on how much time it takes to create the quests, and the concepts within them, on top of everything, the story. Hux, you've really outdone yourself hun, and I sincerely look forward to playing this server. Great job.

you guys copied ascalon! hahah. not bad because it rocked

I dont think that it is a copy of ascalon, because when i played ascalan it was a lot of grinding, without having a quest for it...
this will be purely based on the story line with as little grinding monsters for hours as possible ( not to say no grinding monsters)

but ye ascalon rocked and i hope to see this server achieving the same and maybe even more ^^

That means a lot Jaed, thank you for that post! You should of seen what this started from, it's all in the mapping thread if you browse through. You'll get a good laugh.

There was nothing unique about it. My main thoughts for the server was hoping to have the right amount of spawns and quests (only chests), then I just sparked an idea one day to create a proper story for the map.. so I let it run and started writing, and the whole server changed for the better. Now at least 6 months later.. its all starting to come to together.

I wouldn't even be discussing this though if it wasn't for my scripter, Doggynub. He made my NPC dialogs and quest ideas, literally come to life and be playable. I seriously can't thank him enough for what he's done. But you're definitely right, coming up with all these stories; and crazy adventures to send the player on can be so frustrating sometimes when you're trying to make everything flow together perfectly while making it fun.

Thanks for the acknowledgement!

This looks good, I'm getting pretty bored of real maps and servers where you just hunt for hours. Gunna keep an eye on this.

Thanks for the comments guys, it feels nice to wake up and see peoples positive feedback. ;D
