Linux switching to linux

My computer is having issues so I want to switch to linux, but can TFS 8.60 crying damson run on linux? And which linux should I switch to?

TFS works fine on Linux.

I dare say network service daemons generally perform BETTER on Unix-like systems than any of the consumer-oriented MS Windows platforms.

If this is your personal workstation, and not a headless remote dedicated, then the best 'noob-friendly' distro would be something in the Ubuntu line. If that's the path you take, the real question is will you like Unity(Ubuntu) or KDE Plasma(Kubuntu) more for the graphical desktop environment. Of course, you can always install both and select which you'd like to boot into from GDM/KDM (the graphic login screen you will see once the computer is booted).

However, if you are fearless and not afraid of Google and like getting your hands dirty, ArchLinux has been attracting a good chunk of the veteran Linux users fed up with the indecision and politics of some of the other distros. That, and SystemD is fucking sexy, and ArchLinux just switched to it. So right now I'm debating on abandoning Kubuntu for ArchLinux myself.

If your truly hardcore, and don't just want to get your hands dirty, but bloody, then LFS is the one true way. And I do mean bloody, since to get multilib you have to do BLFS too. I do not recommend this route, at least not at first.

Okay, I switched to Ubuntu. Now, do I have to reinstall xampp and import my database again? Also, how do I run the server? When I click on the .exe it says "an error occurred while loading the archive", what does that mean?

Hell yeah, Arch #1, but it's still advanced for linux newbies, the installation itself is scary since there's no "Live" or "graphical" installation like others.

You can't run .exe on Linux, you have to compile it yourself. There are guides over here, just search around.
