Hello,

Sneak peek:
Support Team and Otland Staff has already been working with the preview version of Otland Wiki (a.k.a. Otland Docs).
I expect it to be available to anyone soon, but first we would like to gather some content. Otland Wiki will be available for edits only to approved users. Now it is undergoing private beta where access is restricted to those willing to contribute (by invitation only).

This is a second poll in a series of feedback gathering for the future changes here at Otland.

Please respond by checking the most appropriate answer.

Additonal comments in this threads are welcome under following conditions:
- you can only post once in this thread
- you can only answer the poll question
- you cannot respond to any of the posts in this thread

Please especially say how can you contribute to our Otland Wiki.

Hey Don, sorry the first post is going to be negative, but I'm sticking with my guns when the idea was first proposed. I don't see a use for a Wiki (especially the traditional Wiki (if this is going to be more like updating TFS documentation then my vote goes for "Yes" and I would even help)). But from what I understand about a Wiki, I don't see myself contributing much to, nor do I even really like the idea.
If developers spend time updating a Wiki (as they have the most knowledge about the code, since they're the ones writing it) it's taking away from time they could be improving/updating TFS, and let's be honest, it's not going too quickly right now as it is.

The idea isn't bad, and I'm all for helping new users and making the process of learning about open tibia easier and more welcoming but I don't see a Wiki as the solution.
The TFS documentation gets little-to-no clout. And its use should be emphasized and it should provide everything I can imagine a Wiki would.
OtLand itself is like a Wiki. If I want to look for something I use a search function or reference pages I know I've viewed or replied to in the past. I just believe it's an external resource that isn't necessarily worth its weight. Where weight should be distributed in other areas. We have a big community, let's not stretch it.

Anyway, sorry your first post (or well, by the time I post this it'll surely not be the first post) had to be negative, but if you can pull a Wiki off and make it work, you've got a much larger vision than I do about it.

(And "I do not see the point in contributing at all" absolutely doesn't mean I won't contribute)
Best of luck,
Red

Hey, I don't want to make another post since you said only one post :p
I took a look at the sneak peak (I hadn't noticed you had provided a link). It doesn't look like a Wiki as much as it does an organized web-based resource for documentation.
So I'm all in for it, sorry for the confusion.

Thanks for the input Red.
This is why I mentioned this as a "Wiki/Docs" project. The name is the least important part in this. As you can see in the preview, it has more of a documentation layout and this is its purpose. It will not be editable by everyone so it's technically not a wiki. It's purpose is to gather TFS documentation and Articles in one place (the Articles section failed so far). And this documentation is now seperated from the TFS SVN to make it available to edit by everyone, so it basically means someone else than the developers, to make it up to date. All the points you mentioned are important, but the way you understood the idea was a bit wrong. Now I wrote what I kept for the announcement :)

@Edit
I can already tell than a nice interpretation of the results will follow ;)

I'd like to help but as a moderator of some boards since I'm almost ALL the time online. ;)

Multiple choise plx, I intend to contribute into multiple categories. :p

If mapping ends up having a sector on the wiki then we already know some of the people who will help out there (Limos, me etcetera)

Unfortunately you have to pick the one you want to contribute most, but it's good to hear that!

Please select "TFS itself" - because that's where data/world is. We are open to any kind of knowledge, so if you can write something about mapping (which I can't even imagine), it will be good!

I'll help too ;). Monsters, npcs, some mappings pieces..
"TFS itself". Great!

Even though we have a bunch of informative tutorials we daily see people asking for simple things in support board therefore I doubt they would bother reading wiki. So yeah, my vote goes for the last option.

Think about it this way: you are smart enough to serach for the information. Suppose you had the wiki/docs with an accurate and to-the-point information, would you use it?
I don't care about people who are too lazy for search for information so it's not supposed to decrease the number of support threads.

It's amazing to see how many people choose the last option a.k.a. "I'm greedy-leechy-bastard".

I know I wasn't supposed to post twice in the thread but voting for the last option doesn't necessarily mean "I'm greedy-leech-bastard", it's more like there's no point to contribute to wiki because as I stated already most of the people are too lazy to read and learn on their own and they rather ask for ready-solutions so why would anyone want to waste own time on contribution if those who lack knowledge wouldn't even bother reading wiki and those who would read it would be probably people who already have sufficient knowledge.

This is the deceptive part of that! In that case, there is no right choice in the poll for you.
Well, I get your point. I still think that there are people who do not have that knowledge but can read.

I can help with lua, just ask me for help and I will be happy to do it :D
