I'm pretty sure it's trolling. Not sure if troll or idiot
You are an idiot. Downloading is illegal? Never has downloading ever been illegal, and ever could it be.... As soon as you type in otland.net and hit enter, guess what.... YOU ARE DOWNLOADING. Goto google.com? DOWNLOADING. Download just means to receive data from another server, as upload means to send data to a server. Without downloading, the WORLD WIDE WEB wouldn't exist. Now that being said....
Who has the right to say some information is illegal to share (but only in certain forms, in other forms its still ok), but other information is legal to share? How is that? You mean I can go to youtube, and find a music video I want and watch it.... That's not illegal, but now if I use some script to save that data, or even a program that just saves data being transmitted to certain peripherals, now all of the sudden what I am doing is illegal? Why? Because I can't be trusted with the data? It absolutely dumb the laws they come up with on the internet... But what if I create my own music, and then I share it... That's fine, because I have the rights correct? Ok so music companies share their songs and give their rights to so many sites, and still you can get that data from them sites, they aren't going out of their way to secure it, because you can't... ITS JUST DATA.... Filesharing sites are legal, youtube is legal, pandora is legal, netflix is legal, but piratebay is illegal? How so? They aren't even hosting the data that is copyrighted, the only thing they host is a reference... That's it! Piratebay is nothing more than a reference site....
I'm pretty sure it's trolling.
Actually, it's kind of illegal to share CD's and stuff like that too... They just can't directly control it. Still, there are some countries where you pay taxes for every CD you buy just because there is the possibility you could copy into it some copyrighted information (EU at least).
It may be illegal to share a CD, even though you bought the CD, which means you have rights to have it, possess it, listen to it... It's yours, but not your work... But how is that any different than someone uploading a song on youtube and just making sure it has the copyrights? It's not really, because again, anyone can still download that audio, that is my point, it's dumb as fuck how some things are ok, but others aren't... Maybe you should re-read what I said more carefully...
I think you didn't get my point. I'm not saying it is not dumb (because that's pretty dumb), I'm saying that because no one controls whether you copied that music CD in the shop into another CD or your computer or not, doesn't mean it isn't illegal. So, no, it's not different from someone uploading a song to Youtube without having the rights to do so. They are pretty much the same thing, but one is is easier to control than the other.
I will as soon as I get a big enough 3D printer.
