Ok, first of all, you need to set up a plan before you are going to map. My tip for you is to watch other mapping pieces to gain some inspiration.

Use grass, rocks, dirt, etc. You want people to have a sight to look at when they are walking through it. Think of the detail outside on Fall. Leaves, branches, etc.

Do what your feeling, go for :D

But what you should think about what fits to things and check out a little around at other mappers how they have made a little inspiration after the start use raw
it is meant by not auto as you have done now, bit-for-bit it can take minutes to hours, but if you want to succeed with something so it is something you need to stand out with :p

Perhaps not the best explanation but I hope you understand

use autoborder pls, is better than this
Please don't listen to this fuckwit.

Obviously being your first work on RME it looks like shit, no offense. But this is normal.
I personally think you should take a look at some good mappers work and just see how they detail and border everything.
You shouldn't use autoborder, well at least not all the time. It makes your maps look square-ish and plain.

I'll link below some decent threads to have a look at

First thing I usually tell new mapper, is that they shouldn't use all these random objects, but you got pretty few so that's good. The holy orchids, palm trees (both broken and not-broken) and water plants do no fit in this envirement. It's like a grass climate, so they do not really fit here (in b4 @poopsiedoodle with a pic that proves me wrong). But I should remove them and try not to place them as squary as they are now. Thing realistic, you've never seen exactly 6 of the same broken trees right next to each other and in the rest of the suqare 200 meter there's no tree to be found.

Also, never use the same items twice close to each other (except for walls, most of the grounds etc.) It will looks ugly and unrealistic. Try to make the shape of the river a bit better and add some brushes, grass tufts, perhaps stones and swamp plants on the waterborder.

I couldn't even find a way to make the palm trees look good. I tried ;_;

@TS; Keep on going, try browsing some tuts and other people their mapping threads, gave me quite some inspiration and tricks to get it going.
