The YourOTS project brought to you by Otland.net

Hello and welcome to the official development thread of the YourOTS project. No, although it sounds familar to YurOTS it has nothing to do with Yurez or that (old) project. This project was initiated by myself and @HalfAway and is going back to the roots of "Open-Tibia". What does "Open" mean to you? For us it means that contributions are made available for anyone and that the community helps together to shape something great! Thus we have decided on a project name that already gives away who will be the main influence on it: You. That's right! With this project we want to revive the somewhat "dead" community spirit and work on a server we all can enjoy to the fullest :) To be clear about this: Anyone of you can contribute to this project by adding content, throwing in ideas or giving helpful feedback to us!

Why is this so great?
- You (the players/otlanders) will be deciding in which direction the server goes.
- You will be able to contribute to this project with content, ideas, or constructive feedback!
- Ever had the feeling that the vocations are imbalanced? That spells are scaling wrong? You will be able to help fix this in a breeze.
- You will be having access to the whole servers data folder throught it's whole development-/lifecycle.
- By making everything public and nothing a secret we can work together on creating the server of our dreams utilizing the skills of all those who are willing to contribute. Nobody is perfect but when we all work together we can definitly pull off something great!

How do I contribute?
You can start contributing by going to our GitHub repository and check if there are current requests you can help with or simply start working on adding some new content :) You should definitly check out the projects Wiki as it contains essential information about the project. Of course you are more than welcome to contribute with your ideas or feedback directly in this discussion in order to help the project! We will be adding a tutorial on how you can contribute within the next days :) We have also created a thread in the jobs section which gives you an idea of what we are in need of at the moment. You can also discuss the jobs you have been working on (for the server) there. This doesn't mean you can contribute in another way however!
Additionally you can check on the current issues which are like a to-do-list.

In what direction is the project currently going?
The information below gives you a rough idea of how the server is going to look like when it will be published. None of this is set in stone and you are able to offer ideas for improvement/changes at any point during the projects development. Please read more about this here.

Client: 10.76/10.77 (TBD)

Map type: Evolution (map with teleports)
The map is based on teleports and only few parts are connected and able to be explored. A notable option for a poll would be of how "connected" we want the map to be.

Exp stages
: Mid
"Mid" exp indicates that you will be leveling up fast in the beginning but later the exp rate drops. The choices for the exp stages are low/mid/high where currently "mid" has been selected.

Death penalty
: Beginner friendly
Sticking to the normal death penalty, however in the beginner levels you will have free blessings.

World type
: Open-PvP
You can be attacked anywhere outside of pz.

Difficulty of the Quests
: Normal
Indicating that quests are still very do-able and can be cleared by the average player.

FAQ:
- How strong is my influence on the project?
We will consider all requests/ideas and if they seem to possibly be a good addition to the project we will add a poll and discuss your idea :) Please understand that the project developes continously which means we may not be able to go back to the roots if you come with a totally game changing idea or out of the sudden say smth. like "we need another map!". We don't want to limit the communities influence on the project at all, however we will need to evaluate wheter your idea is worth being discussed or we are already behind that development point (as in the example I have given earlier). At any rate this will all be open-source so if you want to grab the project and go in another direction as the "official" project does you are free to do so :)

- Will there be donations?
No, we don't intend to have a donation shop. You will however be able to donate to the server if you like it or would like to keep it online :)

- I would like to contribute to the project, where/how can I do that?
- You can contribute content (such as map pieces/scripts) by following our tutorial.
- You can contribute by heading to our request thread where we display some of our requests or you can view all requests.
- You can contribute by doing bugfixes for the server or test its' mechanics.
- You can contribute by giving us feedback and/or new ideas on the project.
- You can contribute by requesting polls to discuss certain aspects of the servers development.

- Will the YourOTS-Team do all the work?
Definitly. Both, @HalfAway and me are too busy to pull this whole thing off by ourselves, thus we are dependant on YOU (= the Community). Alot of the servers map pieces will be containing map pieces which have been released by our fellow community members or were contributed by those of you who are willing to contribute :)

If any more questions should come up please don't hesitate to ask :)

Special thanks to...
- @HalfAway
for immediately agreeing on hosting this awesome project for us :)

Are you interested? Let's do this!

Kind Regards,
The YourOTS-Team

I've been wondering recently why there are so few (almost none) publicly available datapacks. Seems you guys have been reading my mind! :D As for the choice of TFS version - I suggest going for 1.2. It already has some significant efficiency and memory usage improvements (not to mention a ton of bug fixes), would be a shame to miss out on them. Good luck with it and if you need help with TFS internals feel free to ask.

Holy hell cant wait to try this server created by the geniuses @HalfAway and @Damon
This server won't be developed solely by thw two of us. I have made this clear in the main post. Both of us don't have the time to pull of such a project by ourselves. Thus we need you(the community) to take part in the development. Otherwhise we will have to discard the project due to the reasons I mentioned earlier.
Anyway I'm glad you are looking forward to the project :)

Here's a map I've bought few years ago but never really used it, you can take shit out of whatever you like, it's 8.*:

Thanks for posting this, I will check it out later :p

@xKrazyx
Why a map with teleports? It is more likely to succeed with this one as Evo servers are quite well established and easier to make whereas custom maps are coming with way more effort to put into and often die out in few weeks. Also a tp server makes it way easier for ppl to contribute as an evo map consist of many unconnected pieces. When we'd go with a custom map server however, people who contribute would need to be way more into the project and could not simply map a spawn/quest but also would need to implement it at the right place in the custom map where it fits perfectly as the map is connected. They couldnt simply contribute a spawn and say: "here make a teleport to it and use it.". At a custom map everything that is mapped has to be way more in sync which makes it a really hard project for a cimmunity which is why I opted for a teleport/evo map from the start :)

Sad to see it's an Evolution. :( The thing about Evolution is that it was only fun the first time you played it because it was all new. Then every time you play another Evolution it's super boring and usually consists of the same old quests, monsters, items, etc.. I think it's a pretty cool idea that you will collect maps from many people and then combine it into one! I'm curious to see how it turns out, but teleports are rather boring. I would much rather see a way-point system of some kind because it combines the best of both. You do have a good point though.. you can't really make a custom map with a bunch of random pieces because it will be unorganized and such.

And that is exactly why this project is aiming to be a teleport server. But aside from that there can still custom things you haven't seen (on many servers) before. Surely to some degree if you play an OTS (doesnt matter if its RL, Evo or custom map) it will - to some extent - be the same. Looting cool gear, clearing quests/dungeons, exploring areas (which is a limited factor at Evos though) and other system have been proven to be part of any OTS. So if you fastly grow bored of these things I don't know if an OTS is where you will find your next great deal of enjoyment. You will come to a point where you will have seen probably all OTS systems/mechanics and were either enjoying them for a while or were bored from them rather quickly. Generally speaking the fact remains that if you are not enjoying the "normal Tibia systems" atleast to some extent you might aswell look for another game as I have never seen a team before which had the funds nor qualifications (graphic design studies, game design studies) to pull off what you are looking for: An OTS with custom monsters/items/spells all if possible well sprited, good balanced and top notch developed. Don't get me wrong mate. I don't mean to offence you in any was but we all come back to playing OTS because we loved the Tibian days and now want to enjoy them a bit longer by playing/developing OTS. But I can't see any team here creating a complete new game even if TFS would make that possible.

Cheers,
Damon
