Whoever made that spiral staircase should be shot.
Even if people were on hands and knee's they would be hard pressed to crawl up that staircase.
I understand they want to 'show-off' the spiral staircase idea.. but don't make it sloppy.
That staircase should have been extended to allow access from floor 7 to floor 5 or 4.

The mapping is great, I just don't like that particular sprite.

Even then, gnomes are usually portrayed of medium height, the top of their head usually at the breast line of a human, with conical hats to make them appear larger, usually adding an extra foot of height, bringing their total height to about the nose/neck area of a human. So the size difference whilst traversing stairs would be almost equal to that of taller races.
Even if they took off their hats, gnomes would still have to walk up that staircase awkwardly.

I surely do not underestimate your knowledge about the gnomus humanus. But if you take a good look at the gnomus skeleton you will notice that the vertebrae is much shorter than it is when looking at humans. The femur, Tibia and Fibula are shorter aswell. Yet it is hard to walk up the stairs, but they have a compact form of the metatarsis if you comapare it to humans. This makes it easier to climb the stairs for a gnome.
