i have 4 gb and no have lags, do you use the zoom at 100% or use less? because you can't view all your map in the screen because its lag

i normally keep it at about 135% zoom

Not at my computer right now..
but try going into options for rme and find 'mem cached sprites' and enable it, then close rme -> re-open rme.
It will load all sprites into memory, and make rme run smoother.
