Welcome back to a new instance of the official OTland Mapping Competitions.

VOTING STAGE: October - "Abandoned Habitat"

The entrants shall remain anonymous until the voting stage has concluded.

Remember: The prize for the winner of the competition will receive 3-months free premium on OtLand.

It is worth noting that there is now a league system that is tracking the points of the top 3 from each competition. At the end of a "season", the winner will receive an additional prize! Stay tuned. More details and current standings as well as a more detailed account of the rules can be found here: Hall of Fame | Rules | F.A.Qs
Rules:
  • You MUST NOT vote for yourself
  • You MUST NOT entice others to vote for your entry
  • You MUST only vote once. Anyone found using multiple accounts to vote will have all of their votes discounted. If an entrant decides to violate this rule, they will be banned indefinitely from the competitions and have their entry disqualified.
  • You MUST NOT inform, hint or otherwise let any other members know which entry is yours (until the winner is revealed obviously)
  • You MUST NOT insult or "flame" anyone, their maps or their comments
  • Please vote for the entry that best suits the theme of the competition (in this case; the theme is ("Abandoned Habitat")
  • If you know who mapped what just by style, do not post saying who it is. You will receive an infraction for doing so.
  • If you wish to change your vote, please comment below and this will be accounted for once the voting stage has concluded. You should now be able to change your vote yourself

Disqualifications:

Vote Changes: I've allowed it so you can change your vote yourself now

#4 is quite hard to see. Nevermind, now it's fine.
Cool entries, wish there were a few more!

I like both 2 & 4, but the latter seems more "abandoned" and that is what I vote for.

All submissions are decent, good level!
My top are #2 and #4, but my vote goes to # -, no unnecessary frills, the town arouses my curiosity and I would like to know its history, well done!

Im trying to figure out why people arent into #3, its impressive.. i did like the style..
well, everyone is entiled to have their own opinion.. i know that..
others are really simple to me
Hope #3 will turn table and end up winning this one :D

Idk, #2 for me doesnt look abandoned at all, just a bit damaged. #1 got a great house, but the rest is a bit boring. I really enjoyed #3 and #4, arent perfect too. Anyway, i really enjoyed all pics, great pieces! Grats to all mappers

Only one or two of them really fit the criteria of abandoned habitat, though one is majorly better than the other, I was actually going to do something this month but opened the editor a little late :(
I feel like this too, maybe everyone mapped something similar due to inspiration pics, It was basicaly abandoned places. But, thinking in another way, the theme was halloween (not abandoned habitat) so, imo, its a very ample theme, anything scary could fit

all pretty shit tbh
I would not say that. Clearly the quality of mapping went down for years already but how would it not? Especially this year priorities shifted. Almost none of the mappers who were there 8-10 years ago is still with us and there are rarely new ones joining. I am happy about any contribution that is being made. Neither of the pieces does really attract me but nor are they bad.
When I am joining a competition nowadays it's because I either want to compete with friends or to not let down @GhostX because I think regular competitions are needed to push activity. There is actually nothing else from interest to "fight for" and that is ok. But earlier I said something about shifted priorities. Even if I am "motivated" I would not invest more than 45 minutes into a piece (split in 5-10 minutes phases because I often just close the editor again) and if it's just to not let someone down it tends to not be more than 30 minutes.

Damn, you gotta do something next time! Or even in between. Would love to see you a little more active again even if it's just every now and then. :)

true, to be honest, none of the entries looked like an "abandoned habitat" at all, maybe we don't have proper sprites or so... but maybe:

1# I really like how ground determines nature because this is the way it works in real life, I don't like autobordered parts and that nature doesn't create some groups, like swamp plants on the edge of swam rather than randomly in the middle

2#Author for sure didn't know that flying bats will look really strange in winter ^^ I like idea of avalanche and falling rock but this could be done better

3# I see this as an old battlefield because of rotten flesh but flames are still burning. Everything looks randomly dropped guess this is how it is on battlefield. Overall it looks nice

4# don't know if this is cave or middle of mountains but flying bats does fit here xD I see that it was abandoned by people and now other creatures lives here, don't like straight lines of western building, but I will for sure try to make some gold fever in river place on my map inspired by this!

Mate, i need to pay respect to your wise words..
Nowadays people want to compete to show they are the best.. isnt like 8-9 years ago...

I came back daus ago and im missing the 'old' environment, all ot forums are 'dead'.
Right now im planing a trip to see my baby ggirl, she is turning 2 in some days, but after coming back i want to start being active..

I need to re-learn lots of things.. weirdly, cuz i did finish my bscs last year :p and im kinda lost with some stuff.. ADHD is a hellish thing but i can do my best..

I like mapping the most, coding is just a hobby..
Anyway, im happy to see there still people with this way of thinking, around here..

Cheers

Let's see what next months theme is and I'll maybe participate, I got a little something done for this months but it is definitely not up to my usual standards

I really like #2. It has the most original story behind it IMO, with the big boulder falling from the mountain.

Probably because of:
  • not that great grounds and borders
  • to messy with all that smokes and fires

I voted for the snowhouses, cuz i likef the style (roshamul sprites+snow) and the houses were made very well and the way they were integrated into the mountain. Very cool. I always apreciate it when people make the nature/city has an unusual geographic structure.

What i rly liked with 3 is the way the mapper interpreted the topic. Nobody thought of an abandoned battle field. Very creative and the mapping style is decent. But i voted for the snow composition, cuz -as i said - of the geographic shape of the map. The 3rd submission is just a flat terrain, the 2nd is instead more up and down.
