After 2 years with the same source, with the code that does not send more than 4 clients and even setting a limit via onthink, and after 2 months that I was offline, today I return and I am banned. Reason: Spoofing Data Info - Does anyone know the approximate time that Xinn answers and what it is based on to ban servers? www.thornia-world.com

I'm sad.

Unfortunately, same here. But no proactivity on Xinn's part to help me solve the problem. Tried to be humble but still received a rude response.

LOl this is your server? To be fair I think Xinn must perma ban you

Why? I am following the rules. Not counting more than 4 players per IP. It doesn't matter if I have farming systems if I am following the rules properly. The question here is follow x not follow rules. There's no rule against mining/woodcut/fishing systems, therefore I am correct in this issue.

doesn't it mean that you count them per ip so if at the same time you encourage them to change their ip one player can be counted as for example 8?

It doesn't matter. Players can do whatever they want with whatever tool they want, it's not up to me. The logic is simple: I am counting 4 occurrences per IP. That is the rule, period.

You are the one providing them with a tool that will break / is breaking this rule...

Not providing anymore. But even if I was providing, there's no line in the rules that states this is forbidden. The rule is count only 4 players per IP, nothing more, nothing less. If a new line is added to rules as 'do not encourage players to use VPN' you would be correct. But there isn't.

Do you agree with me if your server was really good you wouldn't need to cheat like that?
I sincerely hope your server dies in these 3 months out of the otservlist

Not cheating bro, and never had the purpose of doing so. I cannot control what each person does. What I can guarantee is that I do not incentive any tools anymore, even it being not against rules ... if that makes you happy.

Besides, it won't die, as it exists since 2009 and most of the incoming people are from google ads / yt / fb / ig according to my analytics. But thanks for your kindness.

"What I can guarantee is that I do not incentive any tools anymore"
You're just saying that because you got caught.

And I hope that Xinn makes efforts to catch other servers that do this, circumventing the 4 mc rule with vpn.

I believe it is reasonably easy to find out if a server is doing this, for example there are sites like: https://ip.teoh.io/vpn-detection
that you can check if a player IP originates from a vpn ip. If a server is full of players with vpn ips it is very likely that it is cheating like you

Okay, but what is the action plan here? I cannot force my players to do something. Many of them use VPSes to farm, it's wrong (at least for me) to ban them just because they want to advance faster in the game.. I am kindly asking here: what should I do? And, more important: how to prove it?

I cannot thing a way other than matching their IPs with VPN lists (using this website you provided, for example) and adding their IP manually to a 'exclusion list' so they are not counted...

@Mr.Caffeine:
We found a lot of irregularities on this server and we are 100% sure about logging in fake characters there (and "mixing" them with real characters).
Unfortunately we have to refrain from posting any details about how we found fake characters - it just doesn't benefit anyone except spoofers who based on that information may just adjust their systems and make our work way harder.

@mameca123:

And you can't just remove your spoofing mechanism on your own? You need my help to do that? :)

Tried to be humble but still received a rude response.
I'm sorry, but I tend to cut conversations with spoofers when I'm 100% sure about spoofing. They are just pointless and always look the same.

Xinn,

The thing is that there's no spoofing mechanism of my part, I assure this to you. Whatever I can do to prove MY PART would be awesome, and having otservlist's proactivity and willingness to support is fundamental.

What happens is that the players use Google/Azure VPS to login a lot of 'farming' characters to task+mining+woodcut and other systems. The help I need is to think about a system to simply prevent these behaviors.

What I can do is limit the number of MCs in 4 (not only 'count 4 logged characters as 1 per IP' as it is now, but really prohibit them to login more than 4), but they still can use VPN and/or VPS to fake their IPs.

Other idea is change these systems to a 'daily reward' approach that depends on the player level and/or quantity_of_resets, so logging 'farmers' will be unuseful - they will need to focus their energies on the main character instead.

What you guys suggest? Really willing to change this scenario, but I need directions. Being humble and honest: it's really my fault creating these systems, but things got out of control. Now I can't prove the point that I - myself - am not logging such 'fake' (as referred to you, but actually 'farming') characters, but my players are.

I'll try to think in a solution to reformulate these systems to become 'farming'-proof and will reach you in 3 months.

But take into account I never lacked education or proper behavior with you, I'm just trying to fix things. Otherwise I wouldn't be texting an essay here like I am doing now.

EDIT: I sent the discussion about changing mining/woodcut systems to my players:
miningchange.png
The real thing is that regardless of the change, someone will be dissatisfied. If you change the system, whoever has a miner will feel wronged, for the paid VPS time, for the mining char. Now that the change has been suggested, if it remains as it is, those who don't have the miner accounts will be pissed off for missing an "opportunity" to get tokens more "easily".

Some players are accepting it, others (who have plenty of characters) not. But this may prove that there's a mafia of farmers there.

Best regards.
