I'm getting a new computer that will run on Widnows Vista, 64-bit. What can I expect when I try to run my server? Will I run into any problems? Anything I should prepare for?
Will use many resources I guess and maybe some errors. My tip is ... Never use update tools, because you may discover that your sound won't work etc..
I'm currently running a Tibia server (development purposes) on a comp with Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and I haven't experienced any weirdness aside from odd crashes when I do a big LUA-oopsie.
Basically the "Theforgottenserver.exe has stopped responding, looking for solution" thing pops up, but the server continues functioning and even displays a LUA error, and continues working until windows forcefully closes it in relation to the whole " ... has stopped responding" thing.
Exept for that, it works just as well as on my 2003, XP, Win7 comps.
If it going to be a serius server i highly recommend you to use any *nix distribution
Linux is always the better choice when it comes to stability, uptime and system resource management, but keep in mind that not everyone is used to, nor have taken classes in linux, and thus will not have any clue of how to manage it properly and will have an easier time getting hacked.
It's more recommended that you run on a Windows server if you lack good knowledge in Linux, since then you can set up security solutions better.
