Foreward: I'm not accusing OTLand users or staff of starting anything, nor am I accusing OTFans users or staff of doing the same. I am well aware that this bickering started over something insignificant, followed by over-the-top retaliations; and escalated to an unreasonable level and has encompassed an entire community of bystanders who know little if anything of the truth.

I want the bickering between OTFans and OTLand to stop, completely. It's died down, but it is still a point of contention on both communities. It's a petty dispute between the owners of the respective sites that has probably long ended, but the community; knowing nothing; has felt the need to continue long past the right time.

I am well aware that OTFans and OTLand will always be "competing" on some level to become the better, or more popular, or whatever, site for Open-Tibia. I don't care who wins the competition, it has no bearing on me. I can put out content on either site with no issue.

However, the fighting is the issue. Two parties can be in sportsman-like competition with eachother, or they can bicker amongst eachother and try to make the one site look inferior to the other in an attempt to garter new users. The latter approach is cheap, but commonly used and found to be effective in politics. But, I dislike it and would like it to stop.

I just want things to be sane again. The fighting's gone on far too long, and although I know both sides might think that the other is somehow "unforgivable", know that the other side was either doing what it thought was correct or what it felt it had to do to preserve itself - neither side acted completely on malice, however it may seem.

So, just stop the fighting. It's pointless, and every moment that I personally spend reading and commenting on some post attacking one of the sites is a moment that I could be spending either putting information out to the community or developing the community's major product. The community around OTServ, no matter on which forum it may dwell, is the same community - developers, moochers, noobs, and those who can barely understand english are all here attempting to do whatever it is here to do; whether it is on OTFans or on OTLand. The aforementioned parties are present and deeply routed in both forums, and the only difference between the members of the two forums is which forum they decided that they were most comfortable residing at. Hell, plenty of users use them both.

Disclaimer: I also posted this at OTFans. This is not an attack on OTLand, as stated in the first paragraph.

I totally AGREE!
The fight was so 2007, 3 years later, kids still fighting on the internet like retards.

I gave you reputation points for your determination into this thread.

yeah, kids that have no clue about this are fighting about it nowadays

nfries88, please start to participate active on OTland as well! :D
Would be very awesome to have you here. :)

@ONT:
Hmm, it's been a while since I saw a properly kind of OTland vs OTfans fight here.

Lets scratch a bit on the forum:
Take a look:
[Complaint] All this OTFans hate

I personally had a quote, it was not meant to offend OTfans in any way, it was my personal opinion for why I prefer OTland.
The Forgotten Server is the leading distro, thats why OtFans are supporting it. But OtLand created it. (Tala, elf etc).
If you run TFS, it is written in the console that you should seek OtLand for support. And that with good reasons.

Both OtLand and OtFans got their upsides and downsides.

There are a bit to many moderators on otland which I don't think deserve their position.

Zisly, I do not like the way you posted this thread. You seem to aim toward ALL of the otland members. There is only a few ones who seem to hate otfans.

I like otland as the activity here is much bigger than otfans.
I like otland since the best way of getting The Forgotten Server support is here.
I like otland because the layout here is far better than on otfans.
Otfans got to many downtimes, and the otfans forum is slower than otland.

  • I believe many people will agree with me on these points.
... Do I really need to say more? Have you got your answer?

Ohh btw, I don't hate OtFans. But I prefer otland instead of them.

I almost got banned on otfans, because my signature was 10+ width pixels to big. Which is kinda lame. Its the owners of otfans fault its even possible to have so big signatures. Otland solved signature problems, without any moderation, without any banishments. Why can't otfans do the same? They like to bann users because of their lack of Vbulletin experience, no wait, they should teoretically have bigger experience with vbulletin than us.

So I agree on the statement from several otland members, they ban for silly reasons.

Also, if you take a look at this thread:
Otland becomes the biggest otserv fansite
(At page 2+ Talaturen started to participate in the thread to answer some questions).
There are many people who blame OTland to be the bad guys, to be the ripper. This is pretty wrong. Also, there has been many announcements on OTfans the past 2 years where OTland is taking the blame.

When have OTland announced anything negative about OTfans with the global announcement?

I was, for a bit, the only reason I stopped was because I didn't really have time to manage activity well in both communities; so I just picked my favorite one (whcih, sorry, is OTFans).

I was here before, but I forgot the password to my old account (Vagabond) and don't think I have access to the email I used for it either anymore; so I had to make a new one.

It steered a topic totally off-course on OTFans for a few posts the other day, and I was like "seriously, this has been over with for what seems like an eternity already!". It took me a couple days to decide whether or not to address it (if anyone is still sensitive about this, it might result in backlash; that's why I also worded it carefully).

Also, if you take a look at this thread:

This is exactly what I'm talking about; it's just plain stupid. It's the same type of people who use both sites. How can one site be "evil" when the other is "good" in this scenario?

Besides, it shouldn't have been about OTLand vs OTFans in the first place. Those are sub-communities within the greater OT community; not an individual or a group of completely like-minded individuals. From the beginning it was just a spat between a couple of people, and somehow it got warped into a fight between OTLand and OTFans.

and, I will admit, it was OTFans that acted more the villain; as a whole. I think it was just because what little information they were given was given to make Talaturen look simply appalling, however.

EDIT:
@"[Complaint] All this OTFans hate": Why was this allowed to go on for as long as it had? It was like several members of this community just attacked one guy from OTFans who only wanted to see why the hate against OTFans was continuing. Frankly, I'm appalled. The comments like "if you care so much about OTFans, just stay there" were completely rude. Does that mean that because I prefer OTFans over OTLand, I shouldn't have registered here either? Is this topic going to be swarmed with the same types of attacks against me, once the wrong people see it? It's no wonder that many good OTFans members don't like this place, if that is the type of reception they receive. (I'm well aware I won't, too many people like me even here - just saying, that was ridiculous)
EDIT2:
I do rather like this post, though: http://otland.net/f15/all-otfans-hate-64461/index3.html#post662507
Love it.

Sorry, but many of the OTland mods tend to enjoy a discussion. Also, we almost closed the thread several times.

Here is a pair of quotes:
I don't dislike OTF that much to hate it, in fact I never experienced any problems with them.
And hatred posts about such things should be deleted anyway.

I will let this thread open for a while to let express other members if it doesn't goes to far.

Reply from thread author:
Still, please leave it open for a couple of days.
You mods could clean it if it goes out of control.

On OTland, we respect and give thread authors some extra unofficial advantages over their threads. Thread author can for an example make thread rules. For example "no posting without including images". "No offensive/negative posts" and such things.

Thread authors can also request a thread close, or open. As long as they have good reason with an moderators approval.

If somebody does not follow thread rules, I wouldn't mind if thread author would report the post, and comment it as "did not follow thread rule regarding blablabla...".

However, if a thread gets to much moderated, it might get closed. There have been cases where 50% of posts being deleted in a discussion with a lot of flames etc. :P

I guess there is a few good things with having many moderators on this forum. As long as members use the report button, things will stay clean.
