Would that be enough to host a rl map server?

There's 100 threads about dedicated servers..

For a real map you'll need atleast 3-4 GB ram. so it's just to start searching.

You won't need more than 2 GB RAM for that.

Running XAMPP and a realmap with a 98 MB map takes 1,5 GB RAM.

Map size != Memory size. It's more factors to take into concern.

I am running a real-map server on a 8 GB RAM server and I just had a look at the memory usage statistics and noticed that the XAMPP and the server takes 1,5 GB RAM only.

A 2 GB RAM server will just do fine. (This is not what I think but based on statistics, like I mentioned above).

Fact is, that when you start a realmap it takes 3gb of your ram, after an hour it takes 2gb and after 4 - 5 hours its down to 1.5gb ram

It varies from system to system - the way it's configured to handle large memory usage and caching, and so on.
