I use a servercomputer ONLY for my OTS. My connectionspeed is 100mbps.

Computer info:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
E6850 @ 3.00GHz
4,00 GB of RAM

Server distro: TFS 0.2.12 rev 815

I have 110-125 players online and my server laggs as hell. This is a very serius problem for me and I realy need your help.
I don't know whats wrong. My map is 10mb only and I only use OTS on the computer. No other programs....
Please help me! I want to know what the problem is that makes the server laggs.:confused:
...One more thing: I did only install xampp on the server, nothing more.

Tecinacly Why is linux better is ontopic... and the reason is it runs faster and has less unused files.... also alot of high end hosters use linux.. it's just better..

And with 200 people online thats not bad for a windows xp operating system(even windows vista).. i have 200 on mine and theres blarly lag.. but i have my computer overclocked and i modifyed my motherboard to run faster!

Mabye try windows 2000 if you cannot get a copy of linux..

mmmm was looking for something like this. I'll give you some hints.

If you have any store click/buy stores. Those store can get lag to the server. Or else someone is using an script without stopping such as spamming it. It happens to me b4 and what I did was if you dont have money to buy then you'll get attacked by it 50% of ur lvl. NOW I am not saying its. But may be posible.
Some scrips also make it lag. So you gotta find out whats the problem.

I am using windows vista and my server normally have 160 players online and I doesn't lag till when its 190 online, BUT. windows vista sux as hell since it sometime crash the server. I tryed getting windows xp on it and it did not let me do so.

mmmm 100 mbps? Thats the connection that ur pc is accepting MAXIMUM. I think. So post ur bandwith test and let see cuz it can be that you have 5mbps but ur pc accept 100 mbps.

I have 15 mbps at home and whenever you see the internet icon it will say 100 mbps. So you're wrong about ur speed atm.

Also there might be a chance he dosn't want to show that he actually don't got 100mbit, but alot less :p

The problem you are having is obviously hardware or network related. I'm not saying that your stupid but a lot of newbies mistake their link speed as their bandwidth. Your Ethernet link speed might say 100mbs but that's only the LINK speed to the modem / router!

Also, run speed test on a different computer and post the results.

Thats impressive, your using 0.4mb (not 100, as i knew) [im talking about upstream]

But you managed to get 100 - 125?

I managed to get 60, and then it was laggy :p So had to put max players 60. (at that time).


As mbz says, you think you got 100mb internett, because you click on your network symbol and you see that the connection is 100mb.

But this only shows that you (in most cases) are plugged to the router/modem with a network cable. (RJ45 series) to be exacly. (europe) Im learning about this at my school :p

So if your having a LAN party, and want to send stuff to your friends, or want to play games with them, you are using a 100mb connection, but not on the internett, thats far much more expensive :)

This has nothing to do with windows or Linux, a windows computer with:

1.8 ghz
1mb ram
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU

Can host a server with 200 players online without lag. (as long he use a map that has less than 30mb size)

Your internett is not good enough for it, your computer is great.

I got 2MB and im hosting 2 servers without lag.

I was talking about Zhtek.se server.

ontopic:

You shoud set max players 80 or something, so it ain't so laggy at your server. Unt'll you have found a better host.

I'll try to host the server on another ip tomorrow. I hope the connection will be alot faster this time. :)
